Mohammed Ahmed Makarfi’s name needs no introduction in the political landscape of Nigeria, not only is he an astute politician, grassroots mobiliser, and he is also a philanthropist.
Ahmed Makarfi was the former Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). He was also governor of Kaduna State from 1999 to 2007 and also elected Senator Kaduna North 2007.
Ahmed Makarfi has been one of the leaders of the PDP in Kaduna State since the party came into existence. This might be because of his inherent leadership qualities bestowed upon him by God and not because he has ambition. Through the years Makarfi has proved himself as consistent and loyal to the ideals and workings of the PDP. No wonder the party has grown from strength to strength in the state being its leader.
As politics is in top gear right now, in preparation for the forthcoming general elections, Makarfi has decided to be in the forefront of the political campaign in ensuring that the PDP takes over power from the ruling APC in Kaduna. “I will not sit back and watch my people being deprived basic amenities, I am a stakeholder in the affairs of the state and party, that is why I am in the lead to ensure, Isa Ashiru Kudan (The PDP Gubernatorial Candidate) wins in the state”.
Makarfi who is a grassroots mobilizer is presently giving the APC sleepless nights because his memories as governor to the people are still very fresh in their minds, as he was wise in creating chiefdoms back then, to ensure there is peace in the state.
CityPeople reliably gathered that for Makarfi to personally lead the PDP Campaign in the state is of concern to other political parties knowing he will mobilize the voting population at the grassroots and urban areas in order to awaken their political consciousness and ensure the PDP wins at the polls.
Makarfi who started his working career at the Nigeria Universal Bank (NUB) where he rose to be Assistant General Manager, was at one time Kaduna State Commissioner for Finance and Economic Planning. He was also a Board of Trustee Member at the Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution in Abuja.
Born in 1957, he joined “Capable Party men and women” in the contest for the main opposition’s presidential nomination for the 2019 General Election. He said it was only fair he joins the race after wide consultation with his party men and women in order to bridge the gap and unite the people.
Ahmed Makarfi has promised to continue to “lead in the process” of the party’s victory in the State and National level.
Commenting on the role Ahmed Makarfi has been playing to ensure the party’s success at the polls, the State Chairman of the PDP Hassan Hyat told CityPeople that the role of the former Chairman cannot be underestimated, “He is a grassroot politician who has remained committed to the growth of the party and by the grace of God will lead us to victory in the forthcoming elections”.
