There is no doubt in the fact that the Alaafin of Oyo Oba Lamidi Adeyemi (III) is an encyclopedia of Yoruba tradition and culture; an encounter with him will proof his worth any day any time. Even with his age (78) he still quotes events, dates and time off-hand and accurately. All these however are unconnected with his special interest in books and research. Alaafin, in one his interviews, revealed how his love for books almost got him into trouble abroad.
“I have taken time and spent my money in search of knowledge and I have the results. I hardly travelled to the United Kingdom without visiting bookshops. I have found myself in a situation where I had spent all I had on books and was almost stranded. Can you believe that?,” he stated. This he also said has really helped him in winning law cases. “I have involved in 100 cases and won 98 out of it”, Alaafin revealed.
