Nigerian businessman and industrialist, Aliko Dangote joined other dignitaries at Redeemer’s varsity African Centre of Excellence for Genomics of Infectious Diseases (ACEGID) ceremony honoring Herbert Wigwe.
Dangote was present at Redeemer’s University for a significant event held by ACEGID.
The event took place at the university’s new permanent site and included the dedication of a garden in honour of Herbert Wigwe, Dangote’s close friend.
Several notable individuals attended the gathering, reflecting the strong connections between major business figures and academic institutions in Nigeria.
The Vice-Chancellor of Redeemer’s University, Shadrach Olufemi Akindele, who was attending the Redemption Camp event, made a special effort to attend this ceremony, emphasising the event’s importance to the university community.
ACEGID, established at Redeemer’s University, is a leading centre for genomics research, particularly in the fight against infectious diseases. The centre has been pivotal in advancing Africa’s capacity in genomics and has partnered with global leaders like Illumina to enhance training and research capabilities across the continent.
