To Fight FCT Minister, WIKE To A Stand Still
In a raging battle for the political soul of Rivers State, two gladiators are now having the greatest battle on the political landscape with former Governor and now FCT Abuja Minister Nyesom Wike and his successor Governor Siminialayi Fubara going head to head. They are no longer allies in the same political party-Peoples Democratic Party-PDP. The quarrel that began after 5-months in office by Governor Fubara may not after all settle down soon but the quest for seeking filthy lucre and sleaze that comes to political office holders are truly often times the reason behind the inexplicable conflicts. What many people may not know is Wike’s fear for losing his home state to the more than 73 PDP Support Groups working for Alhaji Atiku Abubakar political structure in Rivers State and Governor Siminialayi Fubara being close to those non amorphous groups will be a threat to Wike’s support base in the state.
On March 28, 2024 Dr. Abiye Sekibo, a one time Secretary To State Government SSG under Dr. Peter Odili as Governor and former Minister of Transportation who was Director-General of Atiku Abubakar Presidential Campaign Council in Rivers State came out to address journalists in Rivers State in a Press Conference where the group declared that they have switched loyalty to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Siminialayi Fubara. This group included former national chairman of People s Democratic Party-PDP, Prince Uche Secondus, Former deputy Speaker Federal House of Representatives Austin Opara, Celestine Omehia, former Deputy Governor Engr. Tele Renner Ikuru, Senator Lee Maeba, former Secretary-To-State Government-SSG Dr. Gabriel Pidomson, former Commissioner for Women Affairs Mrs. Toru Ofili and others stated that “The elections are since over and the Supreme Court has ruled on the finality of that contest and pronounced His Excellency Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu Grand Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic GCFR as the duly elected President of Nigeria. We stand by that verdict.
“As law abiding citizens, and responsible leaders of our party in Rivers State, we recognize the elected President of our country and pledge our full support for the success of his administration for the benefit of all Nigerians. We have no choice but to give our dear Governor our total loyalty and support for the progress of our state.”
Immediately after the press conference it was the FCT Minister Nyesom Wike who lambasted the group as not being relevant in the political structure of PDP and that majority of them are no longer members of the party. Even the All Progressives Congress APC leadership in Rivers State led by Chief Tony Okocha came out to accuse the Dr. Abiye Sekibo led group that they want to join APC through the back door and that this move will not be possible. Chief Tony Okocha led APC group are working with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike in an unofficial capacity of political alliance which has no defined attachment to APC national led by Dr. Umar Abdullahi Danguje.
For Governor Siminialayi Fubara working with Atiku Abubakar groups in Rivers State it is obvious as Dr. Abiye Sekibo and his group are open to making statements in support of Gov. Siminialyi Fubara and not supporting the positions of FCT Minister even though they all belong PDP in Rivers State.
