Bidemi Kosoko is the cute daughter of movie icon, Prince Jide Kosoko. She is a chip of the old bloc. She also acts, just like her elder sister Sola and brother. She is from a Yoruba movie family. So good is Bidemi that many producers want her to feature in their movies.
Last week, Bidemi had a chat with City People Publisher, SEYE KEHINDE about her movie career. Below are excerpts of the chat.
How has the movie world been for you? How many years now?
I’ve been acting since I was about five years old but professionally I started acting in year 2000. That was when I took it really serious.
How did you get into acting?
It’s no news that I was born into a theatre home, and as a kid I was usually featured in movies as a kid actor and when I came of age I told my dad I wanted to really take acting as a profession and he asked me to go through the proper process i.e. Join a theatre group and I did and trained for seven years, after which I then gained admission into the University and studied Theatre Arts for four years and bagged my B.Arts
What influence did your dad wield on you?
A lot, although my dad doesn’t force any of his kids to do a certain profession but when I told him I wanted to act he was so happy at my decision and has been supportive ever since, guiding me through the job and making sure I don’t go astray or get misled.
When you started off then you were so little but you grew into it. How did you evolve?
Just like I said, my dad has been supportive and I also had the support of my elder ones both at home and in the industry so growing up in the industry has been more of fun and smooth sailing than hurdles. And I’m grateful to God.
What influence has your sister Sola, had on you?
Trust me She has been the best sister ever, she’s always ready to put me through stuffs and even now I still confide in her on issues that bothers me. She’s always ready to push me to greater heights and I must confess I’m lucky and blessed to have her as a sister.
You have become so hot now in acting. How do you cope with the demand on you by producers who want to feature you?
I for one go through the script a producer brings to see if it’s worthwhile or not, I’m very selective when it comes to my job because I believe you represent and bring to life a story as an actor and I wouldn’t want to represent just any script. Apart from being selective, I receive as many good scripts as I can from producers because I derive joy from what I do and it’s fun. But then again I’m thankful to God that I’m still sought after in the industry“
What are the challenges you’ve faced since you started acting?
Basically it’s the fact that I’m placed on a kind of standard just because I’m popular so I’m restricted from doing a lot of things and that can be very annoying. Then also the media, spreading false informations and fueling feuds amongst actor.
How does it feel being Jide Kosoko’s daughter?
It Feels Great!!! Best father in the whole wide world.
