A man who was kidnapped and held hostage for some time has been found wandering the streets after staging an escape.
A video has shown the moment an escaped kidnap victim was found staggering through the streets with his hands tied and a rope around his neck.
Daily Mail UK reports that an astonished driver came across the barefoot man in Las Palmas, Gran Canaria – one of Spain’s Canary Islands.
Video shot by the passenger shows the bloodied middle-aged white man force the car to stop by standing in the road.
He then begged to be untied after his four-hour ordeal.
Spanish media reported that the man, whose name was not revealed but he is said to be from nearby Ingenio, told police he had been forced to get into a car.
He revealed he had brutally beaten and then abandoned in a cave on the outskirts of the town.
Local reports say he was known to local police.
It was not clear how his kidnappers attempted to prevent him from leaving the cave, or how he escaped whatever measures they took.
When police attended the scene, they released the man from his bindings and ensured he was taken to a nearby clinic.
His medical condition was not reported but he has no obvious injuries in the video.
Police sources said they had confirmed that the man had been kidnapped but that no ransom had been demanded..
The victim identified his captors to police, who are now searching for the main suspect.
It is not clear whether he had named them or simply described them.
The investigation is ongoing.
