Several people have been killed in a multiple-vehicle crash in Birmingham overnight.
The incident on Belgrave Middleway near Edgbaston at about 01:00 GMT, was described by West Midlands Police as “very difficult and upsetting”.
A spokeswoman for the force said there had been a “number of fatalities”.
The Hazardous Area Response Team of West Midlands Ambulance Service described it as a “significant incident”.
The stretch of Belgrave Middleway is closed from Islington Row to Bristol Street.
West Midlands Police tweeted first responders were “doing their very best” and appealed for any witnesses to contact them.
Police, @WestMidsFire & @OFFICIALWMAS are responding to a very serious crash on Lee Bank Middleway in Edgbaston, Birmingham near to the tunnel which goes beneath Bristol Street. Call received at 1.11am Sun 17/12. Avoid area. Road will be closed for a very long time.
