Chai!!! Chai!!! Music Danger in Our Very Eyes

by Ajike's Column

Sometimes words get too heavy that we are left to murmur especially when we see looming danger locking in our very eyes.

Now I understand better what a former Nigerian first lady saw that made her use the expression CHAI!!! CHAI!!! CHAI!! Dearies God O. Right from her very first day in office till her last day those were words that she murmured and the whole Nigerian populace got very interested in Aunty Patience. I need to know. Has Nigeria become a new “Sodom and Gomorrah” where madness seems to be the order of the day? Have we finally lost what is left of our sense of purpose and reasoning? The question we are all yet to find an answer to is who is to be blamed for this total collapse and insanity in the music industry? The government, the leaders, the parents, the schools, etc. Are we all going to wait till everything continue to Pafuka Na Quench like Fela already noticed many years ago or Jaga Jaga like Idris Abdulkareem sang.

Chai !!! Chai!! Chai!!! We all see danger yet we all have decided to keep mute because of our nonchalance.

My worry lately is right in our very eyes the television now flaunt semi nude videos of young adolescence dancing, smoking and in different sexual modes. Do the authorities, leaders and parents watch television at all? Do we still have governing bodies to help curb this madness that may soon lead to cancer of the eyes?

Haba! It wasn’t this bad years ago. Some of us grew up to watch many of today’s music legends who have decorum and shot videos that was well appreciated by international audience ie Ace by Shina Mania, “Fuji Ropopo by Barrister”, “One Love” by Onyenka Onwenu, “Confusion Break Bone” by Fela Kuti, “African Style” Bright Chimezie etc.

Chai! Dearies God O..
