During the show City People’s LEKAN AMUSA and SOLA interviewed him and  he revealed his success story. Below are excerpts.

Everyone talks about SB Live. Who is this SB Live that has become the rave of the moment?

SB Live is a singer, and a producer A cool headed person, God fearing, in all SB Live is just cool.

How did you come about the name SB Live?

I picked them from my initials. My real name is Seun Bankole, so I just added live to it.

When did you decide you were going to be a musician?

Well,  it is something I have always wanted to do so, so for me, it is way of life, and it is my lifestyle. It is not something I didn’t want to do, some wanted to be a Lawyer, Doctor but I wanted to be a musician, and I knew it from my early days. It is not difficult to choose or to turn myself into it.

When did you start music, and how did it start?

Well, I started on my own. But, at a point you need to be under someone, so I was under Suga band for a little while.

For how many years?

Less than a year. Actually, I had been doing it before I joined Suga Band. I was able to pick a few things from Suga Band and I went back to my drawing board to see what I can bring in to the game or do differently to stand out.

When did you start music?

I don’t want to talk about my music journey before I became SB Live. But, I started as SB Live in 2011. Before 2011, I have been going to church concerts playing music as a gospel artist. It was 2011 I started professionally, to play for people that are not Christians, I do repertoires.

What will you like to tell the upcoming artist as encouragement?

Sure, I will encourage them. But, I can’t encourage someone without talent, because music is a flow. If you have it in you, you have it, and if you don’t have it in you, you don’t have it. That’s why we have 100 thousand of music artistes that will never blow, its not a curse, that is the fact. While, some will still blow by chance and will still fade out. But they can’t stand the test of time. So, one needs to be sure of what you’re trying to do, you must be sure this is your talent. That is when we can encourage you to make use of that talent and to develop the talent. If you don’t have it, you can’t get it, because music is a flow.

Especially, when it comes to live band, everything I have been doing tonight is a flow, I did not rehearse anything, I just picked the mic and started singing. So, if you don’t have it, don’t force yourself into it. Because, this is what I can do, even when am sleeping, I will still sing well. So, someone needs to be sure that  he/she has the talent, and you can now look for mentors and develop yourself on it.

Who is your role model?

Well, because of what I do, I can’t say one person is my role model, because I do both foreign and local music. So, if I say Bob Marley, it won’t make any sense, if I say Fela Anikulapo it won’t make any sense as well. So, I learn from a lot of people, the list is endless, both locally and internationally. All the people I listen to are my role models.

In the next five years, where do you see SB Live?

Like Yoruba will say; “Olohun lo ni dede”. For me, what I see is that, I see myself as a competition, I don’t compete with anybody. Because, I often try to be  better from my previous performance. And it is only God that blesses the work of thy hand. So, I don’t know where I will be in next five years. Some will say, I want to win Grammy.

If God says I will win Grammy next year. So, I only hope on God for favour and mercy and divine upliftment.
