Thursday 30th November, 2023 was a day of great celebration as City People Magazine held the 27th Edition of its annual awards ceremony, City People Awards for Excellence in Lagos.

Just as the name of the awards ceremony indicates, this year’s edition showcases excellence in its totality. It celebrated top personalities, companies and government bodies doing greatly in their respective endeavours. These award recipients turned-out in their numbers, accompanied by their guests to grace the occasion which was held at the Etal Hotels & Halls, a popular event centre in the heart of Oregun, Ikeja, Lagos State.

The prestigious ceremony was anchored by the duo of talented broadcasters, Fisayo Alabi and Abiodun Ayorinde in Yoruba and English respectively. They combined well to engage the large audience seated in the hall while taking them through the agenda of the day.

The host of the day who is the Publisher of City People Magazine, Seye Kehinde did well as he welcome everyone to the annual awards. During his speech, he spoke on the importance of the awards which is to celebrate those who are really doing well and hitting headlines in their fields. He said City People has been able to sustained the annual awards for the past 27 years to the glory of God and what makes this year’s City People Awards for Excellence unique is the huge numbers of top personalities who graced the occasion, either as awardees or special guests. He however thanked them for believing in the brand and gracing the awards ceremony.

The programme began with an opening prayer from veteran Juju singer, Evangelist (Chief) Ebenezer Obey Fabiyi who was also among the awardees to be honoured and celebrated. Immediately after the event began, he was presented the City People Award for Excellence before leaving the hall for another event in his church. The legendary singer took time to extol City People Magazine for always celebrating excellence. He therefore prayed for the Publisher and his staff to continue to grow in strength. Before Baba Obey left, he was given a few minutes to sing and he dazzled the appreciative audience by singing a few of his classics which brought many of the guests to the dance floor. Those who could not come to the dance floor sat as they nod their heads to the rythm of the music of the Juju maestro.

The anchors of the event quickly did a roll call of dignitaries seated at the awards ceremony, before the business of the day, awards presentation began.

This year’s City People Award for Excellence was grand and, top notch. The organisers honoured and celebrated 48 awardees made up of individuals, groups, associations, companies and government bodies for their outstanding performances in 2023. 22 out of the award recipients were given special awards. Also worthy of mention are the food vendors, who served delicious meals at the ceremony. There were Tuwo Pama and Fatmac. Tuwo Pama served Amala, Gbegiri and Ewedu delicacies while Fatmac provided Jollof and Fried Rice with Salad and Plantain as well as Small chops. they took care of the hosts and their guests.
