Not many people know that the current Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu was the former MD of Lagos State Development and Property Corporation (LSDPC). Only a few would tell you they know he studied Surveying at the University of Lagos. So, he has always been a real estate man. When he was at LSDPC he turned around the fortunes of of the corporation. For the two and a half years he spent there, he made the corporation very profitable. That was why City People celebrated him last Sunday, 11th August at TimesSquare Event Centre, Ikeja, Lagos for his remarkable contributions to real estate development in Lagos. His Deputy, Eng. Obafemi Hamzat was also honoured. The Lagos Deputy Governor, Engr. Obafemi Hamzat is a professional Engineer. All his life he has been involved in large scale, big-budget construction work. When he was a 2 term Commissioner.
Few weeks before, he was the special guest at the Lagos State Chapter of the Nigerian Institutions of Estate Surveyors & Valuers Honours Nite, held in Victoria Island, Lagos, where he talked about partnering with stakeholders in the real estate sector, in order to collectively achieve the desired result. He said “My Government would work for you (Estate Surveyors & Valuers). It will be a government that will place you in the right place and in the right channel. So we will continue to engage ourselves. I have been challenged to talk about the issue around Land Use Charge and how we can bring about positive engagement; how we can ensure all of the stakeholders are brought up and ensure we all come rogether to bring about a solution that is lasting for all of us. So, we would be knocking on your doors. We would give you headstart to our initiatives and programmes.
“We are at the stage where we need to think global but act local; and add our local competency into it.
“You can always correct us. You can always bring about new ideas and innovations to”, he said.
Presently, a lot of stakeholders in the sector have been calling on Governor Babajide to quickly tackle some major problems facing real estate practice in Lagos.
