- As South-South Politician Of The Year 2017
The sitting Senator Magnus Ngei Abe is currently having a surge in his political firmament and space as City People magazine in its 3RD EDITION OF POLITICAL AWARDS in 2017 Honoured distinguished Senator Magnus Ngei Abe with South -South Politician of the Year in 2017. The import of this honour came from the sampled public opinion which saw the Ogoni born politician being the highly and widely discussed politician in South-South of Nigeria and beyond. First is the fact he comes from Ogoni land where their political exploits have not been harnessed for over 50 years since the creation of Rivers State irrespective of the fact that his people of Ogoni had never had a Governorship candidate of any major political party in Nigeria. But now, many people see in senator Magnus Ngei Abe a governor -In -Waiting to emerge from Ogoniland come 2019. It was in this light that City People Magazine in its search for who that person is that can attract much political followership hence Senator Magnus Abe appeared in the space available. In the Citation of Senator Magnus Abe which was read by Mrs Seun Joel a renowned female broadcast Journalist goes thus “The towering political image of distinguished SENATOR MAGNUS NGEI ABE is growing by the day especially in his home state of Rivers State.
Senator Magnus Abe was born on 24th of May, 1965 at Nchia Eleme LGA Rivers State to the family of an Anglican Priest late APPOLOUS LEKEGHA Abe and Mrs Margaret Nena Abe both from Bera Gokana LGA of Rivers State. He displayed excellence in his academic pursuit having graduated with a Law degree from Rivers State University of Science and Technology Port Harcourt.
Senator Abe was elected into Rivers State House of Assembly in 1999 to 2003 and as Commissioner for Information from 2003 to 2007 as Secretary-To-Rivers Government –SSG from 2007 to 2011 and he was elected as Senator Representing Rivers South-East senatorial district in Rivers state in 2011. An overwhelmingly re-elected back to the senate in a keenly contested electoral Rerun on December 10th 2016 where he led his All Progressive Congress-APC to win all the electoral seats in his Ogoniland from House of Assembly to Federal House of Representatives except one seat which was lost due late filing of Court matter.
Senator Magnus Ngei Abe is like a shining diamond anywhere he finds himself and his role in the Petroleum Committee in 2011 as CHAIRMAN Petroleum Committee (Downstream) brought sanity to the downstream sector of the petroleum business in Nigeria and today he heads the Federal Road Maintenance Agency-FERMA in the Senate and the difference is here for all to see. He possesses a charming personality and his political future is very bright. It is for this reason that we are honouring him this evening as the South-South Politician of the Year”
On his behalf Chief Allwell Onyesoh who had been earlier mandated by Senator Magnus Ngei Abe to represent him received the award while informing the celebrities cum politicians in attendance that Senator Abe was unavoidably absent due to the burial of 103 years old elder Pa Piagbo Mene father of Derek Mene Executive Director Finance and Administration Niger Delta Development Commission-NDDC which took place at Wiyaakara and it attracted who is who in Nigeria and beyond as most friends and well-wishers of Derek Mene flew in from abroad just to honour him as he buried his centenarian father which was a celebration of life for the oldest man in Ogoniland.
