City People Magazine Hosts 67th Birthday Lecture For Asiwaju Bola Tinubu

The much publicised City People 67th Birthday Lecture in honour of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the National leader of APC was held in Lagos last Sunday 7th April 2019.

On that day The City People Events Centre in Lagos came alive as close associates of Asiwaju stormed the event which was put together by City People Magazine.

The lecture was delivered by Mr Sam Omatseye, the Chairman, Editorial Board of The Nation Newspaper. Although the Birthday boy could not make it to the event, he was ably represented by Mr. Wale Edun, former Finance Commissioner when Asiwaju Bola Tinubu was governor of Lagos State between 1999 and 2003. He is also the Chairman of the publishing company that publishes The Nation Newspaper.

Mr Wale Edun who is a finance guru is well respected in the corporate world. Edun chaired the session that had in attendance Comrade Ayo Adewale, the former LG boss of Amuwo Odofin; Mr. Louis Odion, former Commissioner for Information, Edo State, Mr. Tunde Rahman, who is a Special Assistant to Asiwaju Bola Tinubu. Also at the event was Mrs. Aina Ade-Onajobi, former Ikoyi/Obalende LAG Woman Leader.

There were many other APC party faithfuls in attendance, so also admirers and supporters of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

Omatseye who is a long – standing associate of Tinubu delivered a powerful 45 minutes lecture on the very essence of the man Tinubu.

He titled the lecture Asiwaju Bola Ahmed, Tinubu: Politics for Good. He traced Asiwaju back to when he emerged on the political scene in the late 80s. He revealed how Asiwaju went on exile and returned. He spoke about his NADECO days and how he became the Governor of Lagos in 1999.

He described Asiwaju as a man who sees tomorrow because he was always ahead of his peers in terms of vision. “Over the years he had shown a lot of goodwill in many places, “Sam explained.”He has a number of virtues working for him. He has the Ability, Personality, Capacity, Vision and Focus.

Sam Omatseye held the guests spell bound with his very deep and rich narrative of how Asiwaju emerged on the political scene as Nigeria’s No1 political master strategist.

He took his listeners on a trajectory of Asiwaju’s political history. He revealed how Asiwaju laid the template for a new Lagos and paid a lot of attention to building up the economy of Lagos into what it is today, a mega economy.

According to him, Asiwaju built the IGR of Lagos from N600 million to about N10 billion and that has been grown further to N35 billion. “He set the template for Lagos and got strong and capable people to run Lagos.

Mr. Wale Edun in his remarks commended Sam Omatseye for his brilliant analysis of the man Asiwaju Tinubu. He praised the guest speaker for his scholarship and rigour.

He told Sam that with this his deep knowledge of Asiwaju he should consider doing a comprehensive biography of the Jagan Borgu.

“I see in Sam a potential and prospective biographer of Asiwaju. Both Sam and Edun revealed a lot about  what makes Asiwaju the master strategist he is today. They both revealed how Asiwaju made APC become the number one party in Nigeria today. “He made it a point of duty to know what is happening in other parties and the strategy is not to let them gang up against the APC. Asiwaju’s strategy is not to allow your enemies and antagonist to bunch together. Keep them separated, he says.

Comrade Ayo Adewale in his own contribution narrated how he came in contact with Asiwaju in the late 90s.when he was governor of Lagos State.

I was very ver y young when I met him. I was a young man in 1997 when I joined the struggle for the environment of democracy. We were the boys on the ground. We were his foot soldiers. We were undergraduates then.

Tunde Rahman who is Asiwaju’s Special Assistant said he is happy at the opportunity given him to serve Asiwaju. “I don’t take this opportunity for granted. It is a Honour and a privilege to work with Asiwaju. He is not your run of the mill politician.”

The lecture ended with the cutting of the big birthday cake. A Happy  birthday song was also rendered for the Yoruba leader.
