The City People Magazine Team recently visited HRM Ifayemi Ayinde Elebuibon, the Araba Awo of Ilu Osogbo. During the visit, HRM Elebuibon shared his reasons for the preservation and promotion of traditional Yoruba traditional culture.
HRM Ifayemi Elebuibon, who began his career in acting to educate people about Yoruba deities such as Obatala and Sango, has been a prominent figure in the preservation of Yoruba traditions. He shared his experiences in Washington in 1985, where he spoke about Nigerian traditions, leading him to propose a television show on Ifa to NTA. The show, which produced over 500 episodes between 1980 and 1985, faced numerous challenges, including issues with scheduling and sponsorship, but remains in demand among viewers.
HRM Ifayemi Elebuibon explained the significance of using traditional knowledge to empower people and encourage a return to cultural roots. He referenced the 1835 recommendation from the London Parliament to value one’s culture and traditions.
HRM Ifayemi Elebuibon also touched on the financial implications of international travel that affect Nigerians, the establishment of Idari Bayo in 1962, his early relationship with Ulibaya and the memories of his late mentor, Duro Ladipo.
