Donald Trump Slams Oscars Awards – [READ WHY]

Donald Trump, US president, has taken a swipe at the Oscars for awarding this year’s ‘best picture’ honor to ‘Parasite’, because it’s a South Korean film.

‘Parasite’ was among the major winners at the 2020 Oscars, winning a total of four categories, including ‘best foreign language film’, ‘best original screenplay’ and ‘best director’.

But speaking during a rally held at the Broadmoor World Arena in Colorado on Thursday, Trump vehemently disagreed with the judgement which produced the awards.

“By the way, how bad were the Academy Awards this year? Did you see it?,’” Trump asked the crowd gathered at the rally.

Trump also sarcastically imitated those who announced the category winners at the award.

He wondered why the organisers would come up with such resolution even when there is no love lost between the two countries over trade.

“And the winner is… a movie from South Korea. What the hell was that all about?,” he added.

“We got enough problems with South Korea with trade. On top of it they give them the best movie of the year.

“The winner is… from South Korea. I thought it was best foreign film. Best foreign movie. No, it was – did this ever happen before?”

His comment has generated backlashes from several quarters including Neon, the company which filmed the movie.

In a post on its social media page on Friday, the company called out Trump

“Understandable, he can’t read,” referring to the use of English subtitles to the movie fully filmed in Korean.

Trump had in 2016 argued that Oscars should be an all-whites affair just as BET awards is for blacks.
