Ebenezer Obey reveals how he has sustained his 60-year career

Legendary music icon and evangelist, Ebenezer Obey, recently sat down with the City People Magazine team and revealed how he has sustained his fame and purpose in the music industry for over 60 years. He credited everything to God’s grace, saying, “It’s not easy, but the burden has been light because of God’s grace.” He also explained how he’s been able to balance a busy performing schedule while being a dedicated evangelist.

Ebenezer Obey, who recently received the Knight of Charles Wesley in the Methodist Church described it as a divine call to continue serving God, just as the notable evangelists John and Charles Wesley did. Ebenezer Obey, a lifelong Methodist, reflected on how his ministry and music have always been closely linked, and that both pursuits have been sustained by God’s grace.

Despite undergoing multiple surgeries for his eyes, and legs, and a recent prostate operation, Ebenezer Obey remains active in both his music and evangelism. He shared that his journey to the operating theatre was a humbling experience that further strengthened his faith and motivated him to push forward with the grace of God made available to him.

Obey also spoke about the importance of rehearsals, explaining that even after 60 years of performing, constant practice is what keeps him sharp and his music fresh.

Ebenezar Obey attributed his musical success to God, recalling how, at age 15, he became a professional musician, mentored by the late Adeolu Adesanya. He noted that every stage of his career has been divinely orchestrated, from his first album in London in 1969 to his ongoing compositions today.

For Ebenezer Obey Obey, music has always been more than just entertainment—it’s a tool for ministry. After stepping away from music for 17 years to focus on evangelism, he explained why he returned to the stage, using his music to continue spreading his message of faith.
