Eko Club is one of the popular social clubs in Lagos. It is a club founded in 1974 made up of distinguished gentlemen of Lagos origin. The big news is that Eko Club recently held a 5-In-One Programme which was well attended at the Club premises off Bode Thomas Street in Surulere, Lagos.
The event, which was well attended by members and their wives, took place on Sunday, 12th February, 2023. The event which took place at The Arcade Hall, of Eko Club also had in attendance many distinguished Nigerians who are friends of memb ers. The 5-in-1 programme was made up of the commissioning of Tennis Court, Gym House, Indoor Games, Wife’s Day Party and New Year Dance. The father of the day was Hon. Monsuru Alao Owolabi (aka Alao Seniyan), a 4 term member of the House of Reps (3 terms representing Lagos Island and 1 term representuing Lagos Mainland). He is a member and good friend of Eko Club.
The Chief Host of the event was Hon. (Barrister) Tajudeen Jaiye Agoro, the President of Eko Club. Agoro, in his welcome address revealed a lot about Eko Club.
“In the name of Allah, The Most Benevolent, The Most Merciful please join me to say Alhamdulillah! Alhamdulillah!! Alhamdulillah!!! Robil Alamin because I have every reason to continue to thank almighty Allah for the point this Administration is as we speak”
“Let me appreciate all our 93 Wise Men for their foresight in forming Eko Club and also the Distinguished Members of the Board of Trustees of Eko Club, Highly Revered Members of the Guardian Council of Eko Club, Members of Executive Committee of Eko Club, our highly respected elders of Eko Club, All others Blessed Members of Eko Club, invited Guests, Ladies and Gentlemen, Blessings!”
“My speech today which marks 16 days to the end of the Administration as 219 Presidents of Eko Club is to continue to praise and glorify Almighty Allah for unprecedented favour to have adhered the steed thus far.”
“The 5-In-1 celebration is the second in the series of the 5-In-1 celebration, the 1st was held on Sunday, 19th June, 2022 when we had the following: •President’s Party •Induction of New Members •Easter/Eid-El-Fitri Celebration •Merit Awards Ceremony •Fund Raising for Club Projects.
“The Funds Raising for Club projects resulted to the 2nd in the series of 5-In-1 celebration today 12th February, 2023 by the commissioning of the following •Tennis Court •GYM House •Indoor/Light Games Room”
“Again, we are celebrating our Wives’ today because they are the jewel of inestimable value holding the home fronts for us and stabilising us for all our other activities, please let’s all say a “Very Big Thank You” to all our Wives’, you all agree with me that they deserve to be celebrated at all times”.
“Again, we are also having our New Year Dance as a Club and we pray that we continue to have reasons to celebrate and be blessed by Allah”
“Today is not a speech making day as my valedictory farewell message will be delivered in the next 16 days when I shall handing over the administration of the Club to the 22nd President”.
The very spacious Arcade Hall, located inside the compound of Eko Club,sits over 1,000 people conveniently. Many eminent socialites and members, stormed the 5- in- 1 event to celebrate with Eko Club members. Let’s tell you about the arrival of club members and guests. The colour and dress code of the club is, white native Agbada,with blue cap mixed with orange design, members and guests were gorgeously dressed in their native attire.Their wive’s were not left out. Don’t forget, the event is also their wive’s day party .The event decor also added glamour to the party. The event started with an Opening prayer by one of the members, and the National.
The President of the club, Hon. ( Barr) Tajudeen Jaiyeola Agoro started the event by praying and singing thanksgiving songs,saying Alhamdulilahi, Alhamdulilahi,several times. He broke into a song e wa ba mi gbe gba ope oo, e mi ma dupe, e mi ma yin o.He appreciated every member and all the executives, with their usual blessings slogan and greetings.He said, Eko Club started in a shop owned by late Alhaji Sikiru Agoro, and look at how big the club is today.He appreciated all the guests and friends seated.He said, the event is 5 in 1, commissioning of Tennis Court, gym house, indoor games, wife’s day party and new year dance, as the 21st President, in the next 16 days, i will be handing over the administration to the 22nd President, I am excited at the development, some of the projects will be commission today. During the program, we will all move to see the tennis court, gym house and the indoor games.We are also celebrating our wife’s.This was an idea that came from one of our past Presidents, who is well present today. Our wife’s don’t come to the club with us, so, we decided to pick a day to celebrate them.As the saying goes, beside a successful man, there will always be a woman. Some one walked up to me, and asked how can he support the club? I mean ,what does the club need, my response was, if he can paint the club. To my surprise, within few days, he started painting. The painting cost him 11 million. Today is also the club’s New year dance. We have every reason to thank Almighty Allah.
This was followed by the Chairman’s Opening remarks.He appreciated the president, Hon. Agoro.He said, he was not surprised at the growth and development of the club.He said the reason is simple.Hon Tajudeen is from a family, where, achieving aims, is their goal When they set a goal, they will work hard to achieve the goal.He is hardworking. I am happy at what I am seeing here today. Your name will never be forgotten in the history of the club.We pray, for more strength and wisdom for you.”
After his speech came Goodwill messages from royal fathers and members of the high table.They expressed their feelings towards the good job of Barr Agoro.The chairman of the event requested everyone to be up standing, while Barr Agoro remained seated, and a for he is a jolly good fellow song was sang for him.They prayed for him and he was applauded.
Speaking at the event, Prince Rabiu Adio Oluwa,who is the Chairman of Island Club,and at the same time, a member of Eko Club, said, he initiated the wife’s party day, and he is happy, Agoro has continued from where he stopped. He said Agoro was among his exco members when he was the president.He said he is very proud of him.And he prayed for him.
After the speeches came the commissioning of the Tennis Court. Members of the high table, club members and few guest danced along with the President, to the venue of the Tennis court,within the premises of the club.The former president of the club, was the one , who commissioned the building.He said, this is the 3rd tennis court in the premises, but, it was never completed.This is the 1st time, they will be having a complete tennis court in the club.
Players were already in the tennis court. Barr. Agoro, said, they decided to have a small tornament to welcome and commission the tennis court.They had already ended the female tournament before the day. The male players, played while the guests and members watched them for about 5 to 7 mins.The best player in Lagos State Tennis was among the players. Barr. Tokunbo Agoro, presented some trophies to the players.
The President appreciated his members for their support in building the tennis court. He said, the project is worth 70 million, but, with the support of the club members, the whole project was less than 50 million, and also with the support of Alhaji Muyideen Ibrahim.Alhaji was always coming here every day, to supervise the project.He gave Alhaji Ibrahim, the GCHB title,which is the highest honour you can get in the club, and Alhaji’s son, Idris, who has been coming with his father every day, for the supervision of the project.
Idris is less than 30 years and the president , has promised to review his handing over note , for the incoming president, to welcome Idris Ibrahim to the club, for the support, in making sure , the Tennis court was completed without stress.
Trophies were given to the players, including their referees and coach. Let’s tell you about the members wive’s Day party.Chief Mrs Wasilat Agoro, the first lady of Eko Club,who is the wife of the Eko President Club, Barr. Tajudeen Agoro, led the wive’s party. He organised the wives and made sure they sat beside their husbands, while the band, Divine Musik (Ambrosial Concept) took them to the dance floor.It was a moment of fun,as the women really had fun and they we’re all happy.There was enough to eat and drink. -Titi Oshunlalu
