Former Arsenal midfielder Alexander Hleb believes Arsenal may be better using the Europa League as their primary route back to the top level of continental competition.
Speaking in The Independent, Belarusian midfielder Hleb, 36, said:Â “Arsenal could do what Manchester United did.
“They should be aiming to win every competition, which they are capable of doing.
“The Europa League offers another opportunity for them to qualify for the Champions League. If the chance presents itself, they should go for it.”
Although boss, Arsene Wenger has come out to say that the gunners will concentrate on all competitions without giving priority to any trophy, Hleb believes focusing on Europa league will afford the Gunners a straightforward ticket to the UCL.
Everton and Arsenal have Europa League ties on Thursday, they are the only representatives from England and are believed to be capable enough to give the Premier League a boost in the European competition.
Manchester United gave England an awesome representation in the secondary European competition last season after the Old Trafford outfit clinched the trophy under manager Jose Mourinho for the first time in history.
Thr triumph gave United the opportunity to participate in the UEFA Champions League this season with an automatic qualification after they finished sixth behind Arsenal who unfortunately could not make it for the prestigious competition for the first time in 20 years.
