The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has dismissed a trending list of increased salaries for its officers.
The list puts the salary of a constable at N84,000, and that of a commissioner of police at N1.5 million.
Following the #EndSARS protests in October, President Muhammadu Buhari directed the national salaries, income and wages commission to finalise the new salary structure for members of the force.
The directive was in line with one of the demands of the protesters, which called for an upward review of salaries of officers, in a bid to curb police brutality and harassment.
A list had emerged on social media over the weekend, showing a new salary structure for police officers.
The force, however, asked the public to disregard the list making the rounds.
“Ignore the trending fake news, please,” it wrote.
The president had, in 2018, approved an enhanced salary structure for officers of the Nigeria police force.
