Fashion Hacks: Quick tricks to rescue your clothing

by Arinze Ago

Try these easy solutions to keep your clothes looking good.

On those days when life is proving to be a challenge, it’s comforting to know that there are some things that we can cheat to make the day a bit easier. Lazy people can be the best inventors, and may the universe bless their souls for making the rest of our lives just that much more manageable.

Here are a few tried-and-tested style hacks that will not only save you time but cash too:

No more lint

If you can’t find your lint remover, or if you just don’t have one, wrap some sellotape around your finger with the sticky side facing outward. Then pat down the item of clothing to remove the lint.

Iron out wax

A wax stain doesn’t mean you should write off the tarnished item – there’s an easy way of dealing with the stain.

Get a plain piece of paper and place it over the stain. Then iron the paper – the wax will stick to the paper and come off your piece of clothing.

Goodbye gum!

Gum getting stuck on clothing (don’t ask us how it happens, but sometimes it does) can make you feel like you’ve lost your garment forever. But this is not the case. Just rub an ice cube on the stain for a minute or so. This makes the gum brittle, making it quite easy for you to take it off.

Smooth as ice

If you’re running late and don’t have time to iron your clothes, take about two to three ice cubes, place them in the tumble dryer with the clothes you need to be ironed for a few minutes. The heat from the dryer releases moisture from the ice cubes which in turn sorts out the creases in your clothes. You might even have time for a cup of coffee!

Say cheers to red wine

You know when someone tells a hilarious story and you laugh so hard you forget you’re holding a glass of red wine. You know how this story ends … Again, this isn’t the end of your relationship with your prized item of clothing. But you need to act fast.

Pour a bit of clear alcohol (vodka, gin, white rum) on the wine stain, gently dabbing it on with a paper towel, and the stain will disappear.
