Olabisi Adeyemi is a fast rising actress who has got a lot to offer in the movie industry
Since 2018 when she joined the industry, she’s been putting on foot ahead of the other gradually ans she’s been working hard to make sure she’s part of the new breed of actors who are changing the narrative of Nollywood movies.
She’s currently working on a project which is scheduled to hold in May 2022 amidst pomp and pageantry. She told Citypeople about part of her plans for the movie.
My name is Olabisi Adeyemi. I’m an actor. I’m a movie producer and a.ln entrepreneur.
How has the movie industry been all these years?
I give God the glory, Glory and adoration. I actually started acting since 2018, but I have been in the industry since 2007. I went to PEFTI school. I featured in one or Two movies in Baba Ajasco, Super story and the brides. Then I left to look for greener pastures in the business world. So I returned fully in 2018. And I have produced three movies so far.
My fourth movie is the one I’m about to Premiere.
Tell us about the first set of your movies?
They are Okan Mi Mon and Eni Ibi. Okan mi mon is directed by Okiki Afolayan. I produced both between 2018 and 2019. They are both on YouTube.
The third one is Aya mi.it was directed by Kayode Alubarka. The movie talked about domestic violence. And I have featured in many movies that I can’t even remember. The one I’m about to Premiere is the fourth one. It is more like a project unlike my previous movies. It’s a two part movie. And we made sure we communicated in typical Yoruba language all through.
I have made my research and found out that most people are already complaining that we speak too much English and we have lost the touch of our local culture as it was embeded in our language. I felt the responsibility to change the narrative.
So the project is called kokoro. It’s about betrayal. Trust me it’s a fantastic story. It’s a modern movie that will capture the minds of the viewers.
What in your opinion are the challenge faced by upcoming actors?
Yes, there are challenges. The major challenge is that once you are an upcoming, the established actors don’t want to reckon with you. They see you as nobody and treat you anyhow at locations. Except it’s your own project. They don’t plan for your feeding and accommodations. They don’t plan for your welfare, and they still make you feel they are doing you favour.
Except you belong to a caucus, if not there will be challenge. I didn’t enter through a caucus. I I’ve gone for training at PEFTI and a started by producing my own movie.
My best moment is usually when I’m on my movie set. Because in that regard, I called and paid them.
I have also been to Jenifa’s Diary location and saw how well they treat the team. They give them food and treat them well as a cast. In fact when you at going they also pay you certain amount.
I will implore our Yoruba actors to up their game and treat the upcoming well. They started somewhere and we will also get there someday
Who are the cast in your new project?
There are lots of them. We have Bimbo Oshin, Toyin Omo Alausa, Saidi Balogun, Akin Lewis, Jide Awobona, Mustapha Sholaogbade,Omo Junaid, Basira Badia and a lot of actors.
Aside from this movie, what else should we be expecting from your stable?
A lot of fantastic movies . After the premier the movie will start showing on Apata TV so you people should watch out once it’s out and enjoy the movie.
We will be premiering the movie at Oniru beach way, Landmark street. It promises to be fun with lots of music and comedy
