Lola Omotayo-Okoye is the pretty wife of Peter Okoye of the defunct Psquare group.
Lola, who has been married to Peter Okoye for 4 years, was recently sighted at Music Act Oritsefemi’s wedding a few weeks ago. She was the cynosure of all eyes with her flawless skin which complemented her good look. “Byonce” handled her make up which was on point. One thing that amazed many guests was that Lola has no airs around her.
She walked in like the Queen of the Okoye’s that she is. Though she sat quietly, but she was a gold fish that has no hiding place.
City People’s Assistant Society Editor, ABIOLA ORISILE and Entertainment Senior Reporter, DAN EMMANUEL had an exclusive interview with her on how she met her husband to mention and other, related issues. Excerpts.
How many minutes do you spend on make-up to look this good?
Just a few minutes. My make up was done by Mimibyminiancy.
What is the secret of your beauty?
No secret at all. Just normal stuff. Take a shower and use normal shower gel. I have a normal routine just as every other person.
You have no airs around you unlike many celebrity wives, how was your up bringing like?
I come from a very humble background. I grew in Lagos. Most especially on Ikoyi, Island and at Chevron. I had a very good upbringing. My parents taught me to be humble.
Would you say your upbringing shaped your character?
My father is Chief Omotayo, a Nigeria, while my mother is Tina Omotayo, a Russian. My father was a very strict man. He taught us to respect people.
You have 2 kids, but you don’t look it, what is the secret of your look?
I am still struggling with the secret myself. I think the first thing is healthy lifestyle. Incorporating exercise into my daily routine instead of just eating and sleeping. Eat healthily.
How long have you been married to Peter Okoye?
I have been married for 4 years and I have been staying with my husband for 13 years.
How did you meet your husband?
He was a member of P. Square and I was with a firm “Benson and Hedges”. We were doing road shows together and we just started talking.
How did you both fall in Love?
I think after talking for a month, we fell in love.
You have been together for 13 years, what has kept your union strong and firm?
First of all, we have God in our life. We are good friends, so we talk much. We communicate very well with each other. We also play much. We don’t have normal routine of husband and wife. We have fun together and we are very fond of each other. To crown it all, I respect my husband a lot.
I respect what he stands for.
Your husband is very humble, what have you learnt from his humility?
He is humble and kind to every one around him. He is hot haughty, doesn’t carry any airs around him. He doesn’t wear his fame on his sleeves. He is very kind-hearted.
What has kept your marriage?
God, He is very present in our marriage. We just keep it real with each other.
Your parents have been married for how long?
They have been married for 47 years.
What have you learnt from their marriage that has helped your marriage?
Friendship. You need to have that in your marriage. You must communicate with each other. You are not bigger than the other, but you are one. I observed that in their relationship and it has helped my marriage a great deal.
You don’t have stretch marks at all, how did you do it?
I think it is hereditary. I did nothing.
How do you cope with his tedious job ?
It was not easy when we started but now, I have coped a lot.
What does it take to be married to a celebrity?
It takes much discipline on the part of the man. You also have to have God on your side.
This is because when you are going through challenges, what you need most is your God. Keep your issues private. Don’t make your fight public; don’t bring friends into your home. Keep your marriage between you and your husband.
How do you rest?
I rest. I read a lot, I swim a lot with my kids and I have my lone time.
What role do you play in your husband’s music career?
I just support him as his wife. I don’t interfere in his music career.
