Fire Destroys Properties Worth Millions of Naira At Atakumosa Market In Osun

Some parts of Atakumosa Central Market, Adeti, Ilesha in Osun State, have been destroyed by fire.

The fire, which broke out on Tuesday morning, has destroyed items worth several millions of naira.

According to reports, the fire started at about 1:00 am and quickly spread through some parts of the market.

The Nigeria Police Force and firefighters were denied prompt access to the venue of the incident because of barriers at the entrance of the shops, an officer with Osun State Fire Service, Fatai Aremu, told newsmen.

Aremu said the damage caused by the fire incident was severe, as he claimed that the cause of the inferno had not been ascertained.

Osun Police Command while reacting, said men were deployed to the scene of the incident to prevent looting immediately it was informed of the inferno.

The command spokesperson, Folasade Odoro, told our correspondent that no life was lost but confirmed that several shops were razed.

She said the command got informed of the incident and mobilised to the scene around 1:20 am, adding that they cause of the fire had not been known.
