Veteran sports analyst and presenter Godwin Enakhena shares touching reflections of how he met with the General Overseer of the Mountain of Fire and Miracle Ministries (MFM) Dr Kolawole Olukoya and how the encounter has made him what he is today.
Read his piece below;
I never heard or met him until I joined the Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries in 1995. My first day in one of the branches in Ejigbo, Lagos state wasnโt a nice experience because I left with a severe headache after some marathon and โmachine gunโ prayers, prayers that seem to touch on every challenge I was facing. I never looked back after that encounter, it was a soothing experience.
Fast forward to 2006. I had butterflies in my tummy after receiving a call from Pastor David Popoola that the General Overseer, Dr Daniel Kolawole Olukoya wanted to see me. His simplicity and the modest nature of his office blew me away when I got to Onike, Yaba, where the headquarters is located. His first assignment for me was simple: โPlease, sir (yes, he called me sir) we want you to help us with our Youth Repositioning Agenda in MFM. We must rescue our youths from destruction and this is urgent because Satan has declared war on them and that explains the 70 point agenda. Football is one strong tool we want to use to save our youthsโฆโ I could barely wait for him to finish before I said โhere I am, sir, use meโฆThat was how MFM Football Club, the first church founded the team to play in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) was born. I became the clubโs chairman and today, I am the Director of Sports, MFM Worldwide. Glory to God for using Dr Olukoya to change my CV.
Just like yesterday, I still recall his simple prayer for me which was I DECREE THE SPIRIT OF EXCELLENCE AND THE ANOINTING OF EASE INTO YOUR LIFE. GO AND DOMINATE AND STAND TALL AMONG YOUR CONTEMPORARIES, IN THE NAME OF JESUS. Since that day, I have not stopped finding favour with God and man.
G O as we fondly call him has a heart of gold. I know thousands of indigent students that he houses and pays their fees. The aged and widows benefit from this cheerful giver daily.
One amazing fact is that he drives a conventional Toyota Sienna even though he has enough resources to buy customised state of the art jeeps or private jets. He would rather spend this money on the propagation of the gospel and the less privileged.
I am aware that he pays the fees of most students at his newly founded Mountain Top University. Criteria are simple. You must be a brilliant student and nothing more.
I recall when I forgot my wifeโs birthday and she was livid, all I did after pleading to no avail was to send an SMS to him at past midnight and he called almost immediately and asked to speak with her. That ended the fight.
I got my first and second iPads, iPhone and Samsung phones from Dr Olukoya. He simply loves technology. Space wonโt permit me to recount the many instances that I have had to call this first class microbiologist graduate from Unilag at odd hours to pray for me in my many low moments and he has always obliged meโฆ
I have learnt humility, Iโve learnt to be a cheerful giver, I have learnt how to serve God wholeheartedly from Dr Olukoya and these otherwise very difficult attributes have helped me in life.
May God bless Nigeria with much more like him, in Jesus name
