From BOBBY To Trouble

Rosie's Diary

Father gave it a thought for a while then shrugged. “It’s okay, I just don’t want boys hanging around my daughter before people start getting the wrong impressions about her.

“Don’t worry, she won’t allow that to happen,” mother returned. “And besides, you know Rosemary has no time for all that nonsense, our daughter is still a virgin. She runs away from boys.” She added. From where I sat, I could only feel sorry for both of them. They still imagined that I was still a virgin. I am almost certain they both would faint on me if they found out I was no longer a virgin. They won’t believe I already lost my virginity to a boy in school. But, of course, how would they possibly know? No one’s gonna tell them.

After service, I was chatting with my mates from the teenage class when I felt a pair of eyes feasting on me. It wasn’t such an unusual thing as I always had male eyes trailing me whenever I walk around the church premises. But this particular male eyes had been constantly trailing me. Several times our gaze had met and I’d quickly looked away. Now, I could see the guy standing only yards away from me and flashing me one of the finest smiles I’d ever seen from a boy…

He was standing with two other guys who pretended not to know what their friend was up to. He was dark, tall well dressed and extremely handsome. Perhaps even too handsome for his own good. I didn’t know when I let a faint smile take over my lips, that was how instantly attracted I was to this cute looking guy.  By the time I realized the danger of what I was doing and quickly willed the smile away, I was already in trouble. Without realizing it, I’d just given this guy the green light to approach me.

“Hi, pretty one,” he said as he stood right in front of me, his smile even more enchanting now. Close up, he was much a much older boy, and more handsome too.

“Good ….good morning,” I stuttered. He was looking straight into my eyes but I couldn’t match his gaze. My heart raced as he spoke to me. His gaze was fixed on me, looking me up from head to toe.

Shyly, I took his outstretched hand in mine. “How are you doing? Nice to see you,” I said to him.

“Nice to see you too,” he returned. “You look really cute, you know,” he added.

“Thanks, you look nice too.” I returned the compliments.

“Em, I know this is not quite appropriate, but if you don’t mind, Rosie, I would really like to speak to you,” Bobby continued.

“Okay, no problems, I‘m listening,” I urged him to speak.

He shook his head. “No, Rosie, you don’t quite get it,” Bobby went on. “That’s why I said this is not quite appropriate. I mean, I know you’re really pretty, perhaps the prettiest around here, so it’s okay for you to be very careful with boys and stuff, but trust me, I mean no harm. All I want to is to be friends with you….”

“But it’s okay, we’re friends already…” I interjected him.

“No, Rosie, I mean being a really special friend,” he emphasized.

Of course, I felt flattered that a much older good looking boy like Bobby had chosen to be really close friends with me. Still, I knew I had to be careful.

“So, what are you suggesting?”

“How about you and I meeting at my uncle’s place tomorrow, it’s not very far from here. That way, we can really talk without you looking over your shoulder, scared your folks or someone who knows you could you spot you talking to a boy.”

I didn’t know it was so obvious I was nervous around him. But this idea of meeting him at his uncle’s place, is it such a good idea?

“Please, Rosie, don’t tell me you can’t come, please, sweetheart,” he begged. I accepted to meet him at his uncle’s place. He gave me the address and agreed on time. And at about 1.30 pm after spinning my mum some lie that I needed to see my friend, I headed to the address Bobby gave me. I was excited at the prospect of seeing him again and spending time with him. Little did I know I was about to open a chapter that would alter the journey of my life for a very long time…
