The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) says that a road accident has claimed five lives while nine other people sustained various degrees of injuries in Bauchi.
The FRSC, Azare Unit Commander, Sama’ila Shehu disclosed that the accident occurred along Azare-Potiskum road on Saturday.
According to him, the accident occurred when the tyre of a lorry with registration number XA616 MSA coming from Potiskum to Kano burst at Buskuri village located 15km from Azare.
He added that the driver lost control and crashed on to a Sharon bus with registration number KRS 25 XA which was coming from Sokoto to Potiskum.
He said that FRSC officials in Azare were alerted after the crash and a rescue team was dispatched to the scene.
Shehu disclosed that victims of the accident were rushed to Federal Medical Center (FMC) Azare and their properties were taken to FRSC command for safe keeping.
Five people were certified dead and the corpses were deposited at FMC morgue.
The unit commander added that N2,133,075 cash was recovered from the accident scene and was later handed over to the victims relatives in the presence of Nigerian Police Force, Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), NURTW and other relevant bodies.
“The command, therefore, called on motorists to always obey traffic rules and regulations to avert road crashes,” he said.
