Gay Community Protests Ill-Treatment In Abuja

by Damilola Akande

“Queer lives matter” chants strongly fill the air in Abuja today the 2nd of May 2021 as the Nigerian Gay Community held a peaceful protest.

The popular Rainbow flag stood flying in the air as the members of the gay community gathered around to peacefully protest against the ill-treatment and stigma meted on their community by the Nigerian government.

It is no longer news that the gay community in Nigeria has kept its race in creating a more social community with growth in its population even with the open opposition by the government.

Therefore today, the LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) community marched out in unison, dressed in printed shirts, and banners emphasizing that “Nigeria is our home and we refuse to be subdued in our country”.
