The 2019 City People Movie Awards took place on Sunday 13th October 2019 and it was well attended by many movie stars and veterans. Below are gists from the grand event held at the 10 Degrees Event Centre, Oregun, Lagos.

MEET THE IGBO MOVIE INDUSTRY WINNERS

This is indeed the first time, the Igbo movie industry was nominated for the City People Movie Awards. This happens to be the first time they had full nominations in an award. They had 14 categories in all with Nuella Njubuigbo as Best Actress of the Year. Atuanya Ehigozie as Best Actor of the Year. Emeka Dibia Emelobe as Best Igbo Director of the Year. Onyeka Affasson Production as Best Movie Producer of the Year. Amarachi Igidimba as Best Promising Actress of the Year. Busor Onyekwelu as Most Promising Actor of the Year. Emeka Okoye as Best New Actor of the Year. Sandra Okereke as Best New Actress of the Year. Schola Ala Owerri as Best Igbo Film of the Year. Chinwe Isaac as Face of Igbo Movie of the Year. Uche Uduzor as Best Igbo Comedy Actress of the Year. Chief Imoh as Best Igbo Comedy Actor of the Year.

Most of these multi-talented actors and actresses, who interpret their roles both in English and Igbo movies perfectly flew in from the East just to grace the occasion and few were gorgeously dressed in their traditional attires to showcase their rich culture.

EMEKA OKOYE STOOD OUT IN HIS TRADITIONAL OUTFIT

Multi-talented actor, Emeka Okoye who bagged the award for the Best New Actor 2019, was no doubt one of the best dressed for the night. He had more than enough supporters, who accompanied him to get his award. He was dressed in a wine traditional attire with traditional accessories to compliment his looks, which made him look like a complete African man from the Eastern Part of Nigeria.

He was overwhelmed with the award he got, and could not curtail his joy, as he gave a long speech to appreciate City People Magazine and fans who voted for him.

SHARON FRANCIS REPRESENTED BY HER FAMILY

Pretty and sexy Nollywood actress, Sharon emerged the Best Supporting Actress of the Year. Unfortunately, she could not make it to the event, as she was held up outside Lagos. She was represented by her cousins, who collected the award on her behalf.

Sharon is both active in the English and Igbo movie industry, she is just 7 years old in the industry but currently among the few top-rated in the industry. Besides being a fantastic actress, she is equally blessed with a gorgeous body and flawless skin.

AMARACHI IGIDIMBAH BAGGED MOST PROMISING ACTRESS OF THE YEAR AWARD

Amarachi is one of the young most industrious actresses in the industry, with businesses in Lagos and the Eastern Parts of the Country. She was equally in the East and could not make it to the event, but was ably represented by her friend, who got the award on her behalf.

Beautiful Amarachi had two nominations at the City People Movie Award, one in the English Category, while other at the Igbo Category.

WITH LOVE FROM KANNYWOOD

The Kannywood movie industry has always been a part of the City People Movie Awards. These stars always fly in, all the way from the North to be a part of the celebration and this year was no different. This year they had 18 categories, Kannywood has contributed immensely to the entertainment industry in Nigeria, with their blockbuster movies and music on Kannywood Channels on DSTV and other local stations. This year, Umar Shariff bagged Best Kannywood Actor of the Year.

Hafsat Idris won Best Kannywood Actress of the Year. Nasir Bello Sani bagged Best Kannywood Supporting Actor of the Year. Aisha Humaira won Best Kannywood Supporting Actress of the Year. Abdul Sheriff won Kannywood Most Promising Actor of the Year. Samira Uba Ahmed won Kannywood Most Promising Actress of the Year. Hassan Mohammed won Kannywood Best Actress of the Year. Mushahu Anfara bagged Best New Actor of the Year. Lawal S. Tahir won Best Actor Series on TV Award. Maryam Habila bagged Best Actress on TV Award. Abubakar Maishadda won Kannywood Movie Producer of the Year. Ali Nuhu won Kannywood Director of the Year. Hauwa Kulu bagged Kannywood Film of the Year. Kilba won Best Indigenous Film of the Year. Sarauniya won Best Epic Film of the Year. Tartsatsi won Best Hausa Series on TV of the Year. Best Kannywood Friendly TV Station Award went to Liberty TV. Hafsat Idris bagged Face of Kannywood 2019.

TANA ADELANA BAGGED BEST ACTRESS ENGLISH CATEGORY

Beautiful and talented actress, Tana Adelana bagged the award for the Best Actress 2019 in the just concluded City People Movie Award. Tana has been in the industry for almost 2 decades, and she has indeed paid her dues in the industry. She is currently rated among the top actresses rocking the movie industry. She interprets her roles so perfectly, and she has been shuttling from one location to another. She often features in blockbuster movies. She was so delighted about getting this year’s award.

BRIAN EMMANUEL LOOKING SO HANDSOME IN HIS BLACK SUIT

Brian is one of the finest actors presently rocking both the English and the Igbo movie industry. He bagged 4 nominations in all, two in English and 2 in Igbo and won one. He came in the company of his friends and also expressed his gratitude for getting an award, which happens to be his first.

He was handsomely dressed in a black suit and sat quietly with his guests until the end of the event.

WALE ADENUGA WINS BIG

Wale Adenuga Productions came into existence over 27 years ago out of the foresight of a young man, who trusted in God and in his ability to make a positive impact in the entertainment industry. Wale Adenuga Productions has produced lots of blockbusters and television series which makes them one of the Best Production Companies in the country till date.

Their latest movie ‘knockout’ bagged movie of the year English Category and Producer of the Year. The comedy which was released in April was star-studded, as it features A-list stars such as Chiwetalu Agu, Toyin Abraham, Patience Ozokwor, Odunlade Adekola, Sola Sobowale, Ngozi Nwosu, Jide Kosoko, Segun Arinze, Desmond Elliot, Hafiz Oyetoro, Ali Nuhu, Charles Okodia, Woli Arole, Gbenga Adeyinka, Klint Da Drunk and lots of others.

It was directed by Patience Oghre. The casts of the star-studded movie led by Mama Ajasco stormed the stage to get the award. Wale Adenuga Jnr. was also present at the award, but could not wait till the category was called before he left for another equally important engagement. He was dressed in a black native for the award ceremony.

DESMOND ELLIOT LOOKING HANDSOME IN HIS BLUE AGBADA

Outstanding filmmaker cum politician, Desmond Elliot, who was looking handsome as ever was dressed in a blue Agbada. He sat with his team and exchanged pleasantries with his colleagues in the industry. He got the award for the Movie Director of the Year. This extremely hardworking filmmaker and politician has no doubt excelled in his chosen career. He was the toast of the night, as lots of guests could not help but admire him and his beautiful outfit.

CINDY MARCUS LOOKING LIKE A PACK OF CHOCOLATE

This gorgeous young movie maker was looking extremely gorgeous in her beautiful wine dinner gown. She came in the company of her family members and she bagged the award for the Young Movie Producer of the Year. She couldn’t hold back her joy, she lost the exact words to express exactly how she felt receiving the award. She dedicated the award to her family who have been giving her all the necessary support in her career and her fans, who voted for her.

LOLADE EBONG’S SHORT MOVIE “FAMILY” BAGGED BEST SHORT MOVIE

Beautiful Lolade Ebong is one young movie producer to look out for in the movie industry. She is indeed ready to take over the movie industry with her beautiful and well-executed storylines in her feature movies and short movies.

Her latest short movie “The Family” bagged Short Movie of the Year Award. She came in with her husband and kids. She was also looking very beautiful in her dinner gown and her low cut hairstyle, which suited her perfectly.

SEUN FASEUN BAGS BEST NEW ACTOR OF THE YEAR

Fast-rising actor, Babaseun Faseun and his beautiful wife got to the event early and they sure look good together. The couple took pictures with quite a number of celebrities at the award ceremony. He emerged winner of the Best New Actor of the Year. He collected the award in the company of his beautiful wife and thanked moviemakers in the industry, who gave him the platform to showcase his talents.

JANE GAM DEDE WINS BEST NEW ACTRESS OF THE YEAR

Despite the fracture on her leg, she still made it to the event. Jane Gam Dede had two nominations and emerged winner of one category. Her latest movie Besieged is one of the best movies for 2019. She is no doubt a beautiful filmmaker and multi-talented actress.

This ex-beauty queen was looking angelic in her all-white beautiful dress. She got the award in the company of Legendary Screen diva Barbara Soky and her other friends.

ITELE D ICON SHEDS TEARS

Ibrahim Yekini, popularly known as Itele D Icon is one of the finest actor cum filmmakers in the movie industry. It was indeed an emotional night for this multi-talented actor as he emerged Movie Producer of the Year and also the winner of Movie of the Year Yoruba Category. He was so overwhelmed, that he burst into tears as he mounted the stage to get his second award.

Itele was the man of the night. He is loved by all, and the DJ didn’t help matters, as he played his soundtrack for his movie “Kesari” as he came out to get his award. The stage was crowded as his colleagues accompanied him to get his two awards.

Hard work they say, pays. Itele has really worked hard and his works are beginning to pay off for him.

BIOLA ADEBAYO’S OUTSTANDING SPEECH

Simple but highly talented actress, Biola Adebayo emerged Best Supporting Actress of the Year (Yoruba Category). She was not only excited about the award, she also gave an outstanding speech to encourage her colleagues, not to give up on their dreams in life. She urged them never to give up and keep striving hard to be the best at what they do, as they will gain everything later in life.

She equally supported all her other colleagues in getting their awards too. She was also looking lovely in her red outfit.

ALLWELL ADEMOLA EMERGED WINNERS AMONGST MEN

Multi-talented filmmaker and actress, Allwell Ademola bagged Best Movie Director Female Yoruba Category. She couldn’t believe she could emerge winner amongst great and exceptional movie directors. She knelt down to show appreciation to God, for excelling in a male-dominated field. She also shed tears of joy.

According to her, hard work truly pays, she excelled where people thought she would fail. Allwell is also loved by her colleagues, as lots of stars accompanied her to get her award. She equally looked beautiful in her short white dress.

ILE IWE ISONU PRODUCER SO EXCITED

He flew in all the way from Kwara State with his colleagues to be part of the award and also emerged winner of Yoruba series of the Year. Despite the fact, that he got to the venue quite early, he waited patiently for his category and the waiting actually paid off.

SUNKANMI AKANNI LOOKING VERY SIMPLE

He is popularly known as Olohunyo, he emerged winner of the Most Promising Actor of the Year. He was looking very simple in a jean and a T.Shirt. He was practically dragged to the stage to get his award as he was shocked when he has announced the winner and couldn’t stand up immediately.

DEBBIE SHOKOYA’S BEAUTIFUL SPEECH

Debbie emerged Best New Actress of the Year (Yoruba Category). She was extremely excited. According to her, this might not be her first award but definitely the best for her and ended her long speech with the fact that she is proud of herself and also made her parents super proud as well.

YETUNDE BAKARE EMERGED REVELATION OF THE YEAR

Dark-skinned beautiful actress, Yetunde Bakare emerged winner of the Revelation of the Year Category.

ROTIMI SALAMI STOOD OUT

In case you don’t know, Rotimi Salami is one of the most talented actors in both English and Yoruba movie industry. He got 4 nominations for this year’s award but won one. Rotimi’s role interpretation is close to perfection. No wonder, fans love him a lot.

He stepped into the award ceremony looking simple and handsome and he supported all his colleagues, even the ones that were nominated in the same categories with him. He also accompanied them to get their awards.

JUMMAI JOSEPH FLEW IN FROM ABUJA

Beautiful star actress, Jummai Joseph has spent over 3 decades in the industry and still counting. She flew in from Abuja to be part of the award. She was looking gorgeous as ever in her blue beautiful evening gown. She sat with Fred Amata and Keppy Ekpeyong throughout the event. She sure had a good time. She bagged a Special Recognition Award for her immense contribution to the entertainment industry in Nigeria, and she dedicated her award to her son, who just turned a year older.

EMEKA ENYIONCHA STEPPED IN WITH WIFE

Star actor, Emeka Enyioncha step into the event with his beautiful wife. The couple was one of the best-dressed couples at the event. Emeka was looking handsome in a gold suit while the wife was equally looking good in a black outfit.

He got a Special Recognition Award for his immense contribution to the movie industry. Besides getting a special recognition, he was equally nominated for Best Actor in the Igbo category.

KEPPY EKPEYONG AND FRED ADDED COLOUR TO THE EVENT

These two jolly friends often step out together for events. They are pacesetters when it comes to the movie industry. They have also both become mentors and role models to lots of upcoming stars in the movie industry.

They were both recognised for their contribution to the industry. Fred Amata gave a long speech on how to move the industry forward, and how City People organised and celebrated him at 50 years. Keppy was equally excited about the Special Recognition, he thanked the organisers of the event and urged his colleagues to keep laying good examples for younger ones to follow.

CLARION CHUKWURA IS  A FASHION ICON

This multi-talented ageless actress who has spent over 4 decades in the movie industry, didn’t just get a Special Recognition Award at the event but, she equally emerged the best-dressed celebrity at the event.

She was looking stunning in a wine and gold detachable flare gown. She stood out at the red carpet with her outfit, and the guests could not stop celebrating her when she stepped into the hall. Also, her speech was also one of the best of the night, as she addressed serious issues eating deep in the industry and also proffered possible solutions to the problems.

FRANCA BROWN ALWAYS LOOKING AGELESS

Ageless actress, Franca Brown was equally honoured. She also came in the company of her family. She was looking very simple but extremely beautiful. Franca Brown is one actress who has excelled not just as an actress, but as a movie producer and director.

She is highly respected in the industry among her colleagues and contemporaries, this explains why lots of people were happy she was honoured. It was indeed an honour well deserved.

TONY AKPOSHERI LOOKING YUPPY

Veteran actor, Tony Akposheri was one of the actors awarded for the night. He came in, in the company of his wife and children. He was looking good and very young in jeans and blazers. He was equally very delighted for the Special Recognition Award and this much he expressed on the stage when he got the award.

BARBARA SOKY GETS FIRST AWARD IN 30 YEARS CAREER

If you are familiar with the popular soap opera in the 80’s “Mirror In The Sun” then, you will remember star actress, Barbara Soky. She was the rave of the moment in the ’80s and has remained relevant in the industry till date featuring in blockbuster movies lately.

She was among the veterans who bagged Special Recognition Awards and according to her, she said, it was her first award in her 30 years career. She was super excited and thanked City People, organisers of the events for such an award.

LOLA IDIJE REPRESENTED BY BIODUN OKEOWO (OMOBUTTY)

Popular actress, Toyin Afolayan a.k.a Lola Idije could not make it to the event but sent actress Biodun Okeowo (Omobutty) to represent her at the award. Biodun was looking sexy as usual in her red dress, and she collected the award on behalf of Lola Idije, who bagged a Special Recognition for her contributions to the entertainment industry.
