Last week Wednesday, 7th July 2021, Madam Mabel Taiwo Adesoye & Deaconess Flora Kehinde Sodiyan (both twins) celebrated their 90th birthday in grand style at the banquet hall of the Lagos Country Club in Ikeja, Lagos.
Their daughter, Dame Juliana Remi Cole and her siblings came together to celebrate their mum. The twins, Madam Mabel Taiwo Adesoye and Deaconess Florah Kehinde Sodiyan UP) were born on the 7th of July 1931 into the family of Reverend and Mrs. Jonathan Adesanya Osiwoja at Odosebora in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State. Taiwo was able to gain admission into elementary school ahead of Kehinde due to her being taller, She passed the then test of”Owo to Eti”, where children were admitted into school by asking them to stretch their hands across their heads to touch their ears. Thus, Taiwo was a year ahead of Kehinde from Standard 1-6 at I1ugun Central Primary School, Imuroko, Ijebu Ode.
TAIWO: Taiwo got married to Pa. Thomas Abinibolu Adesoye in 1948 at Odosenlu, Alaro, Ijebu-Ode. She later moved to Okitipupa in Ondo State to settle down as a trader. From there, she relocated to Lagos with her late husband in 1960. In Lagos, she continued trading and she became a member of CAC, Oliyide. She later moved to the Holy Trinity Anglican Church, I1asamaja, Mushin from 1975 till date. She is also a member of many church associations such as Ifelodun society, Egbe Agba Society ete. She is blessed with children. Her children include Mrs Olubusola Adesanya, Mrs Taiwo Idowu, Pastor Kehinde Adesoye, Otunba Adewale Adesoye, Otunba Abiodun Adesoye, Evangelist Adeniran Adesoye.
KEHINDE: Kehinde however had her standards 1-4 at I1ugun Central School near Ijebu Ode and later moved to Kano where she completed her standard six at Holy Trinity School, Kano between 1948 ‘and 1950. Among her classmates then she was the first Nigeria Beauty Grace Queen Oyelude. Mrs. Sodiyan later went to an Institute of Dressmaking in Kano, where she learnt Dressmaking. She married her heartthrob Mr. Olusesan Sodiyan, a Prince of Gbasemo Ruling House, Ikenne, Ogun State at CAC, Ebute Elefun, Lagos. The marriage ceremony was conducted by the great pastor Odubanjo. The marriage was blessed with Male & Female Children, Grandchildren and a Great-grandchildren.
A very unique loving wife and mother who at difficult times would go extra miles to ensure the educational comfort and goals of her children. Mama Wole or Grandma as she is fondly called had travelled to many parts of the world, Europe, America and other parts of West Africa. Below are the tributes of their kids and family members.

I’m wishing you a doubly, to the most loving, dedicated, kind, loving and patient mother in the whole world! I could never express everything you mean to me, or thank you for every thing you’ve done for me since I was born.
The woman who fears the Lord. An excellent wife who can find? She is far more precious than jewels. The heart of her husband trusts in her, and he will have no lack of gain. She does him good, and not harm, all the days of her life. She seeks wool and flax, and works with willing hands.She is like the ships of the merchant; she brings herfood from afar. She rises while it is yet night and provides food for her household and portions for her maidens. She considers a field and buys it; with the fruit of her hands she plants a vineyard. She dresses herself with strength and makes her arms strong. She perceives that her merchandise is profitable. Her lamp does not go out at night. She putts her hands to the distaff, and her hands hold the spindle. She opens her hand to the poor and reacehs out her hands to the needy. She is not afraid of snow for her household, for all her household are clothed in scarlet. She makes bed coverings for herself, her clothing is fine linen and purple. Her husband is known in the gates when he sits among the elders of the land.
She makes linen garments and sells them she delivers sashes to the merchant. Strength and dignity are her clothing and she laughs at the time to come. She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of
kindness is on her tongue. She looks well to the ways of the household.and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children ruse up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her.
I can’t give you both Kehinde Florah Shodiyan and Taiwo Mabel Adesoye my lovely mothers anything for your birthday that compares to that. All I can say is that I love, cherish and appreciate you beautiful mothers and on your birthday and everyday.

I can’t go without acknowledging the challenges she has faced in her life, the most significant being the lost of her husband our father August Olusesan Shodiyan. How hard it must’ve been for her. TRIBUTE TO MUMMY FLORA KEHINDE SHODIYAN ON HER 90TH BIRTHDAY ANNIVERSARY
I first became conscious of the presence and generosity of this “angel” in human form as a 10-or ll-year-old young lad in the early 70’s when I was admitted into the Ibadan Christ Apostolic Grammar School (ICAGS) for my secondary School education. Actually, I had been seeing her in church at Christ Apostolic Church 83, Lagos Street, Ebute Metta Lagos, as one of the mothers in the church but I didn’t realise that she was family and actually stood in locus parentis to me, being the wife of my uncle, Pastor Augustus Olusesan Sodiyan (now deceased).
I started enjoying her benevolence and special attention when, in my junior school days at the Grammar School, she would come to see my cousin, her eldest son, “Broda” Wole (as I used to call him) and surprisingly she would always have a special package for me also. Broda Wole was two years ahead of me and he took special care of me and protected me from the Bully Seniors especially when he became Food Prefect in his final year.
Mummy always came prepared for her two sons, Broda Wole and my little tiny self. So, I enjoyed her love and care from my early years and even till date. She is particularly fond of me. She has such special accolades for me such as “Oko mi” (my husband); “SAN mi” (my Senior Advocate of Nigeria) and anytime she saw me or I spoke to her on the telephone, she would pray and pray for me and my dear wife, Bolaji, to whom she has extended her love for me and also the children. “Maami”, as I fondly call her, is an exceptionally kind and virtuous woman, gracious in spirit and kind to a fault. She has always been there for me I all the major milestones of my life, to rejoice with me and to encourage me. I am not surprised that she has lived to be 90 and in good health to see her great-grandchildren. That is the promise of God for those who diligently serve Him. “Maami”, Olorun a tunbo lora emi yin I’oruko Jesu”. May God keep and preserve you and your twin sister, Mama Taiwo Adesoye, much longer for us in good health and sound minds in Jesus’ Mighty name. Enjoy your day, Maami.
