Gunmen kidnap monarch in Nasarawa

Suspected gunmen, on Monday, February 19, 2019  kidnapped the village head of Sabon Gida, Bakin Kogi in Lafia East development area of Nasarawa state. Nasarawa The Traditional Ruler, Dauda Yakubu who was on Monday night kidnapped by unknown gunmen is said to have been requested to pay N5 million ransom as confirmed by the family members.

 A family source who revealed this on accounts of anonymity told our correspondent that the gunmen numbering more than five invaded the residence of the village head and whisked away the monarch to an unknown destination.

Witness account also disclosed that the kidnappers have been in touch with the family and are demanding for N5m ransom from the family members before his release and are also threatening his life. When contacted, the acting Police Public Relations Office, Nasarawa state command, ASP Samaila Usman, who confirmed the incident said the state commissioner of police, Mr. Bola Longe upon receiving information immediately mobilized a team of security operatives consisted of police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, DSS and hunters to the area to hunt for the kidnappers upon receipt of the information.

According to Usman, the police has commenced a serious manhunt in the neighborhood and its environs including Lafia, Assakio, Sabon Gida, Barkin Kogi and Obi local government area of the state to ensure that the monarch is rescued unhurt. The PPRO however, promised members of the public of the command’s commitment to rid the state of crimes and criminality in order to guarantee security of lives and properties of the people.
