On Thursday, 13th, January 2022, Her Excellency, Chief Mrs. Gladys Ndubuisi Kanu gathered close friends and relatives at her residence in, Lagos to celebrate the one-year remembrance of her husband, Rear Admiral Godwin Ndubuisi Kanu who was the first military governor of old Imo State and Lagos State.
Rear Admiral Godwin who slept in the Lord in January 2021 was a well-loved Governor and member of the Supreme Military Council who later became a pro-democracy activist who fought for Nigeria.
The service was conducted by top ministers from the Methodist Church, like Rt. Rev. Dr. Oladapo Omotayo Babalola (Bishop Trinity Church Council), Rt. Rv. Dr. Oluyemisi Ogunlere (Bishop, Diocese of Lagos State), Very Rev. Dr Jonathan B. Osin (Proto-Presbyter), Rev. Chukwemeka G. Madu, Rev. Ifiok U. Ekong, Rev. Uzodinma E. Chinnoye, Rev. Enoch Oyeleke and Rev. Emmanuel Alegbeleye.
The service started with the entrance of Her Excellency, Chief Mrs. Gladys Ndubuisi who was dressed in a beautifully stoned gold dress, a nude-coloured purse and black Louis Vinton Monolith Rois leather boots. By her side was also her beautiful daughter, Mrs. Samantha Kanu-Roberts, who also stepped out dressed in a black and gold dress accompanied with the Prada Monolith Rios Leather boots.
After they took their seats, the officiating ministers directed everyone present to the service opening hymn.
After the hymn, a short prayer was made after which another hymn was read. The hymn ended, and Mrs, Samantha Kanu- Roberts went on to read from the book of Psalms. Again, a passage from the Bible was also read by Her Excellency Chief Mrs. Gladys Ndubuisi. After this hymn, one of the officiating ministers stood to give the sermon. In his sermon, he reflected on all the good works done by Rear Admiral Godwin Ndubuisi Kanu during his time in office and even as a son of God.
After the sermon, a prayer was said for Her Excellency, Chief Mrs. Gladys Ndubisi and her family.
The thanksgiving came shortly after this and the benediction followed afterward. After this, Her Excellency, Chief Mrs. Gladys Ndubuisi came out to give the Vote of thanks. In her speech, she recounted her healing process after her husband’s demise. She also talked about the strong and beautiful relationship they had kept for so many years before his demise.
She revealed that a Foundation has been set up in her husband’s memory.
She then went on to recognise the presence of Alhaja Jakande, Eng, Albert Okeke, Chief Ayo Madeko, Admiral Okoja, Hon, Yeye Adenike Agnes Shobajo and her husband, Commander Shobajo.
After this, Bhelcanto and her band then thrilled the guests with cool music by the pianist and saxophonist.
