It was a battle of wits as the grand Finale of the Globacom battle of the year took place at the Expo Centre of Eko Hotel last Saturday Night. Though it was a dance reality television show, it virtually took on a life of its own as the contest electrified the crowd throughout the duration of the show. It was a night for the lucky subscribers of Globacom in attendance to savour for a very long time. Entertainment was taken to a whole new dimension. A rare opportunity for Nigerian youths to exhibit their dance talents to a national audience.
At the end of the night, the dance group, 619 emerged the overall winners of the competition and took home not the prize money of N9 million but a Toyota Hiace bus, worth about N29 million. Before then, finals were held for various categories of the contest. There was no dull moment for almost the entire 5 hours of the show at the venue and one hour of the live show on national and international television.
The categories of the night included the Afro Dance, Popping, Locking and Krump. While Israel Monday emerged the winner of the Afro Dance category and went home with a prize money of N1.5 million, Angela Anthony was the first runners up and carted home her cash prize of N750, 000.
Charles Ekwem emerged Victorious in the Krump category and equally took home the prize money of N1.5 million, while the first runners up, Gifty Ephraim went home with the sum of N750, 000.
Michael Olarewanju won the Locking Category, while Odoh Emmanuel was the first runners up. They took home the prize money of N1.5 million and N750, 000 respectively.
The Grand Finale was punctuated by another individual category called Bgirl and Bboy contest which kept the crowd on their feet. The Bgirl final contest was between Cruxxy from Lagos and Vicky from Abuja. After a very close battle that split the judges, it was won by Cruxxy from Lagos.
Lagos cemented its place as the centre of entertainment in Nigeria as the Bboy from Lagos, Lil Dan also won the final contest of that category, defeating Bboy Whirlz from Benin. It was a contest that task the judges as there was little to separate the too.
The icing to an already mammoth cake was put, when some of the biggest names in the Nigerian entertainment scene were on hand to thrill the crowd of Globacom customers, converged at the Expo Centre of Eko Hotel and Nigerians in general watching from home as well as an international audience tuned in to Glo TV, all at no cost at all. The biggest acts of the day were ace musicians Teni, Simi and Davido. It was also a night of comedy as ace comedian Basketmouth was on ground to crack ribs.
As the shout of Makanaky rent the air, Teni made an entrance on stage and never disappointed one bit with a superlative performance. Simi no less kept the crowd dancing and screaming throughout her performance. Undoubtedly, the big masquerade of the day was OBO himself, Davido. The crowd was exhilarated as he performed some of his great hit. It was an explosive night indeed.
