RevolutionPlus GMD’s Wife, TOLU ONALAJA
It was almost a year now that popular real estate couple, Dr Bamidele and wife Tolulope Onalaja, the GMD and GED of RevolutionPlus Property, had a big encounter with an assassin at their Lagos residence. But they hadn’t officially spoken on it since then.
A few months back when Dr Bamidele was in Church for his birthday Thanksgiving around May this year, he only said they were attacked but didn’t give much details.
Last week, City People spoke with the wife, Mrs Onalaja, who gave us a first hand account of the incident that almost took their lives.
Their initial belief was that, the guy was a burglar who only came to steal but they later found out that he was a hired assassin sent to take their lives, especially the life of Dr Bamidele Onalaja who is the immediate past Chairman of The Real Estate Developer’s Association of Nigeria, Lagos Chapter.
The wife, Mrs Tolulope narrated how God saved them from the encountered. She gave us a full account of what transpired when an assassin was apprehended at their residence here in Lagos.
“That particular day, I went out to Wimbiz. I think that was around October last year. When I got back, I didn’t know the guy had entered the house. When I wanted to enter the house, you know those houses you enter through biometrics. But my biometric failed. It was saying it couldn’t recognize my face. It was saying false face, not knowing that God was using that to save me from evil. The thing just refused to accept my face. So I told my driver to use the other entry at the back to get entrance to the building, so as he went through the back door. He realized someone had entered the house through the back door. So when he came and opened the door, he now said that someone had gained entrance to the house I said how can someone enter the house, so he led me to the back of the house, and I saw how the person entered through the swimming pool side. We also saw the footprint of the person. He had a cut on his leg, and there was a blood stain on the floor because we saw broken glass and slippers on the floor. So we now traced the blood upstairs to our bedroom. And I said the person who entered this house may know this house and only had two people that came to this house. The cleaner company that comes to clean and the Gardner. I said thank God we even had a CCTV camera, not knowing the person was hearing us. He hid inside our bedroom. I called my neighbor and found that all my things were not missing; our laptops, gold, and other valuable things weren’t missing. So that was when I started suspecting that if it was a thief he would have carted away some of those things. Even my iPhone, worth 2.5 million naira, was there. My husband has expensive wristwatches. My gold jewelry was also there. None of these things were stolen, and that got me worried. So my neighbor now said we should call the estate security, and when the estate security came in, he went through the house, not knowing he was watching us going around from the CCTV camera. So after going around, we now decided that we should meet again in the morning so that we could call the person who installed the CCTV to come and play it for us. So we had an appointment with the guy to come as early as 5 am to come and play it for us.
At that point, I said to myself that I couldn’t sleep in the house and that the security of the house had been breached and compromised. So I called my husband, who was in Abuja at the period, to book a hotel for me after I had explained what had happened to him. So he booked a room for me at the nearest hotel, and he said he would come back the following day. So as I went back inside to get one or two things I wanted to take along to where I would sleep, my spirit just told me to tell my neighbor to check the house for me before I go inside. I said please, can you help me check again, he said no problem but said I should give him my security details to follow him. So my two security details followed him. So they searched everywhere, but when they got to my bedroom, my neighbor opened the sliding door in my bedroom. He was just screaming he had seen him. So my neighbor ran through the stairs and my security details met him and went back to my bedroom where he saw the man hiding. That was when they started engaging the man. He was holding a knife, a sledgehammer. He had only boxers on him. Maybe he was planning on raping me, I don’t know. We also alerted the estate security and they were able to get him. They tied him and took him away to a police station. At that point, I was already in shock. They were pouring water on me, I couldn’t talk. So when they were struggling with him, my security successfully collected the sledgehammer from him and hit him on the skull, they went to stitch him before they took him to a police station that night. So when I got there the next day, they brought the guy out after I had written my statement. He now said that he was sent to kill my husband, not me. That’s why he didn’t steal anything that they should ask me if anything was missing, that everything he saw he didn’t pick any. He started mentioning some of the things he saw, but he didn’t come to steal but to kill. So the police people now said, who sent you? He started saying incoherent words. He began to talk like a mad person.
The policeman told us that he had never seen any case like that since he joined the police and because the case was against the Lagos State government they charged him to Panti and he had now been sentenced to life imprisonment”, she concluded.
