•Popular Nutritionist, ANJOLA Reveals A Lot

The Party Managers Association of Nigeria (PAMAN) is two! It held its 2nd year anniversary on on  Tuesday 22nd November, 2022 at The Event Center, in Agidingbi area of Ikeja.

At that event, a popular Nutrionist, Anjola Alinuna told members why they need to pay attention to the food they eat and she spoke at length about how eating the right food can make a person live longer.  Below are extracts of her speech.

“Good afternoon everybody. I am so honoured to share the information I have on Nutrition. I love talking about Nutrition because I have seen the impact when it comes to healing. I would like to start by saying nutrition is providing nutrients in your body for health and growth. You know it’s about the food we eat, we are supposed to eat well, in fact, we have found out that in medical science, if we want to help the doctors, you need to prepare your body for healing. That’s why the doctor would say you should eat well because they know that even their job depends on that.

Your body is the number one host when it comes to healing and in health generally. Wellness starts with nutrition. Talking about what we eat, we all know that these days, no matter how much we try, because of modern-day civilization, we are not getting the right nutrients, in the right quantity and quality. That is one reason why, when talking about wellness, we need to pay attention to getting these nutrients. It’s not just about eating. What one of my mentors used to tell me is that “Anjola, it’s not about being bellefull, it’s about being cellularfull”. Are we feeding our cells right, our body is made up of trillions of cells, are we feeding our cells right?  It’s not about the sweet pounded yam and vegetables soup,we should make sure that we are getting what our body truly needs because being bellefull is not the point.

Now, how do we do it?

Be intentional, the way we are intentional about our cars, about our laptops or generators. Someone like my husband, the car doesn’t have to be faulty before he takes it to the mechanic. This is the way our body needs to be treated, if only we can do that and don’t wait until the body begins to pack up,because at that point, it’s too late, that’s why they say prevention is better than cure, infact, in every way and that is wellness. Wellness is about engaging in those daily things to ensure you are doing well, you are doing good. You don’t have to be sick, some people are not sick but they are not well. That’s why you need to pay attention to what you eat. And that leads to nutritional supplements, a lot of Africans, especially Nigerians, don’t believe in nutritional supplements, but do you know that it’s very very important. I noticed that the white men believe in it, if you check their kitchen, on their cabinets, you will see supplements around. Nutritional supplements are used to bridge the nutritional gap. We all have it, so, don’t allow it to begin to control you. You need to intentionally bridge these gaps, and what we are talking about is taking your nutritional supplements. We need to know all these things. There is this quote that says ‘the amount of antioxidants you take is directly proportional to how long you live’. It’s by popular doctor, Dr Richard Cogland. If you ask some people, even though they are educated, they still don’t know what antioxidants are supposed to do. They don’t pay attention to it. We have the Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Vitamin E. It was during Covid that I saw that Nigerians were looking for vitamins. Some people don’t even have an idea, not knowing that when your body has been compromised, the doctors may have little or nothing to do when that sickness comes. Let us pay attention to these things, take antioxidant-rich foods. Let’s not lie to ourselves; we cannot get these foods. When we were in primary school, we were taught bush fallowing. Bush fallowing is when a farmer leaves a piece land to rest and regain its nutrients for years, that’s what was done in the olden days but now, the same farm lands are being used and repeated for donkey years! What I am trying to say us that if we can  take our nutritional supplements, let it be a part of our daily habits, it would  hep us. Nutritional supplements are bridging the gaps that foods leave behind because those gaps are there, it is very important to take these supplements. Eat well, eat living foods please, foods that are planted, those are living foods because they bring life to your body.”
