by City People

Eko Club is one of the leading social clubs in Lagos, founded in 1974. The club is located, off Bode Thomas Street in Surulere. The club is a reputable one, made up of many distinguished and eminent personalities in Lagos. The names of members read like all the who-is-who in Lagos.

The club is well run by the President, Hon. Barrister Tajudeen Jaiyeola Agoro and his Executive Committee members (2021-2023) like Mr. Razak Olugbenga Amodu, Fnim, Chb – Vice President, Mr. Muhammed Faiq Akanji Abou – Hon. Gen. Sec., Barr. Adedapo Ogunlewe – Asst. Gen. Sec., Mr. Jlbril Adebayo Idris – Treasurer,  Mr. ‘Tunde Hassif-Mumuni, Ohb – Financial Sec.,  Prince Jubril Mobolajl Ajasa-Oluwa      – Social Secretary,  Mr. Ismaila Erinfolami – Asst. Soc. Sec., Alhaji Hakeem F. Amode, Ohb – Sports Secretary, Alhaji Jeleel Olubodun Olubori – Internal Auditor, Alhaji Sadiq Animashaun – Welfare Officer.

Not too long ago, at a club event,  the President of the Club revealed a lot about the 48- year-old-club. His Welcome Address, was well presented and it earned him a resounding applause.

“I want to deeply thank and very sincerely appreciate All Members of Eko Club for their unwavering and unalloyed support since the inception of the current administration of this Great Club led by my humble self.”

“It is very pertinent that I specifically thank a selected number of Members of this Great Club who have been extra supportive in terms of finances, prayers, connectivity and selflessness.”

“They include the following persons, but not limited to; (1.) Alhaji Muritala Muhammed Ashorobi, GCHB (2.) Prince (Asiwaju ) Rabiu Adio Oluwa, GCHB (3.) Alhaji BabsAndoyi, GCHB and (4.) Engr. Mutiu Gbajumo, GCHB.”

“It is my sincere prayer that the ALMIGHTY ALLAH continues to bless, protect, guide, guard, strengthen and fortify them as they proceed with life’s journey.”

“Our administration has embarked on some legacy infrastructure projects. Some of the projects were birthed by previous administrations and completed by us, while others commenced under my leadership.”

“Some of these projects include but are not limited to:

(1) All facilities and equipments of the club that were affected negatively due to the illegal sealing of the club were repaired and/or replaced.

(2) A see-through demarcation fence was constructed in between the main club building and the event centres area. This was done to protect the expected privacy for fresh conviviality of members of Eko Club which is a private member Club.

(3) We completed the premier lounge located in the Kessington Pools and Gardens (Swimming Pool).

(4) We changed all the doors of the Blessings Hall and the billiards room’to modern and more secure doors.

(5|) We sank 3 new boreholes with water treatment plants to enable the supply of fresh water to the swimming pool, Blessings Hall and other parts of the club.

(6) In the area of Sports, we have put full life into activities at the Oba of Lagos Multi-Purpose Sports Hall. In this regard, we collaborated with Mr. Aruna Quadri who is the Champion of Table Tennis in Africa and ranks 6th on the list of best Table Tennis players in the world. Mr. Aruna Quadri donated 8 complete sets of Tennis Tables with all necessary accompanying equipments. He has also organized different competitions in this regard. In addition, Karate Training is also presently available in the Oba of Lagos Multi-Purpose Sports Hall.

(7) Also in the area of sports, the squash and billiards sections of the club have been given new leases of life. This has culminated in making them beehives of activities. Notable persons like The Hon. Minister of Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola has been a regular guest in the billiards room.

(8) The Kessington Pool and Gardens has had full attendance of Blessed Members and their lovely families since we put life into it. This has been a source of revenue for the Club.

(9) Our administration has secured approval from the Board of Trustees for the Construction of a Standard Lawn Tennis Court and Gymnasium. I respectfully urge all Blessed members to pay a visit to the Lawn Tennis Court and Gymnasium site which are under construction. This is to justify the need to raise funds for these projects as we as an administration do not intend to leave any project uncompleted.

(10) The Gafar Danmole Spa and Beauty Parlour is also at the front burner for completion by our administration.

(11)    In addition, we have created the Main Bar of the Club. This is to create a conducive environment for relaxation, for members and their guests.

(12) We have made it a compulsory policy for all new members to partake actively by belonging to at least 2 sporting activities available in the Club. The available and fully functional sporting activities are; Squash, Billiards, Table Tennis and Swimming. This is to ensure that all members are healthy and fit.

(13)    Our administration purchased and took delivery of 400 units of state-of-the-art chairs for our newly engineered Blessings Hall and to add value to our other event centres.

(14) We also replaced all the furnitures in the President’s Conference Room.

It is worthy of note that I inform you of one very great stride of our administration. We have successfully reduced the Club’s debt profile from 83 million naira to a paltry sum of 20 million naira. GOD WILLING, we will ensure that no debt is left uncleared by the time we handover to the next administration.

Moving forward, I make bold to say that the club has never taken a loan from any bank or lending house to fund any of its projects. This is why I make a passionate appeal to all members to meet up their financial obligations to the club.”

To the inductees, I welcome you all to Eko Club. Eko Club is standing strong today because of the foresight of the founding fathers and continuous addition of positive values by members over the years. I urge you all new members to emulate that spirit of adding positive values to the Club. This is the only way the Club will continue to remain prestigious and great.”
