How I Got My Big Break In Photography – Award Winning Photographer,Yemi Disu

Yemi Disu is one of the wave- making new generation Photographers in the industry.She is good at what she does and she is doing so well.She is an award-winning photographer based in Lagos, Nigeria and the founder and Creative Director of @Four23photography.
“We specialize on Child & Family photography.”How did her foray into Photography start,Citypeople asked her recently.

“My photography journey started a little over a decade ago as a wedding photographer before venturing into the world of child photography and family as you can’t be doing photography for the kids without including the family. I have photographed over a 1000 child and family and its being a wonderful experience.”

“It all started with me always being drawn to kids while shooting at an event and when I post images on Facebook people always liked the images of the kids.So I decided to look in that direction and here we are today.”
How did her path and that of Ace Photographer,Kelechi Amadi cross?
“‘Uncle Kelechi is a master in the photography industry and a lot of us look up to him, I met him in 2011 at Goethe Institute. He was one of our instructors then, alongside 3 others, where they taught us about photography and other possibilities associated with it and that brodened our minds.

This program was organized by Yetunde Babaeko, supported by Goethe institute and we were called the “The Xperspective”. And now my studio is just a street away from his studio.”
What are the principles that helped her succeed professionally?

“The principles that helped me succeed professionally include,being true to my skills and also i had an open mind to learn, like I applied for a scholarship program with Goldman Sachs 10,000 Women Scholarship Programme to earn a Certificate in Entrepreneurial Management in 2012 at Pan African University, EDC.I regularly improve my skills in photography too by attending courses organized by other photographers, online programs and i also do some research online too.”
What are her plans for photography?
“It’s a journey and I’m enjoying it. So its ongoing ,it can only get better.”
Why are many young people going into Photography these days?
“More and more young people are joining the photography industry because the industry is very enormous and there are other types of photography that is yet to be tapped into in Nigeria as a whole.So we can all tell stories with our images about our country Nigeria that is richly blessed.”
