ADEYINKA ADEBOYE Reveals How U.I Students Gave Him The Name
For young juju maestro, Boye Best, reaching new heights in his career wouldn’t have been possible without the help of God and those who never gave up on him.
Boye Best came on the scene in 1997 as a young boy, but has become an international star across Africa touring and gaining a significant audience as well. He is known as ‘Party Rocker’ with the prime popular music of the Yoruba people.
He recently spoke to City People Online Editor, SEUN JOSEPH on the jouney so far and how he’s been keeping on with his band of 17 years.
What inspires your style of music?
When I see my people, my fans, the crowd, I am inspired, the big stuff will come to play. Let me just say god is the author of my story in that regard. When people listen to me today and love my vibe, they will be more suprised about what I will deliver the next time they watch me sing. this has been the testimony for a long time now.
So that is it. But nevertheless, I am inspired by the crowd. Where some artistes get overwhelmed by the crowd, thats where you get the best out of Boye Best.
Whats your band strenght?
My members are 23 in numbers. Both the ones one stage and the ones off stage.
How many years have you been in the industry?
I have been in the industry for the past 21 years. I started at very early age and people accepted me my childhood.
I was given birth to in Orile Ilugun, along Ibadan. From Orile Ilugun, I moved back to Olodo, along Odeda local government. The place was a core village. That was where I got all the knowledge that has been helpoing me to deliver meaningful music today.
I pick my songs from the mood of my listeners. When I consider the environment where I am performing. I get inspired and I deliver what is expected to fit into the mood of the listeners.
How do you pick your band member?
It’s only God, Because I have been keeping my band for the past 17 years now. Even the ones that started out with me as young kids are all grown up and are still with me. I give God the glory.
I clocked 20 years on state this year 2020. I would have celebratd it in a big way but the lockdown affected everything. But by the time i will be celebrating it, City People will be the organizer. They will host the event. Its more than 20 years but I just want to stick it to 20 years. I live in Abeokuta but most of my shows come from Lagos.
How did you come up with the name Boye Best.
Boye Best was given to me in the University Of Ibadan, back the I was in Ilaro. The call me Adex. But when they called me up to come and perform at the University of Ibadan, the major artist for that day was my big brother Abass Akande Obesere. So, Obesere didnt come on time, and I was the one getting hold of the people at the time. But when Obesere came, the people were still longing for me. They were shouting that I should return back to the stage.
They were chanting Boye is the Best, Boye is the Best. I started hearing from the 60% of the crowd that Boye is the Best. Next moorning I started hearing from the campus Boye Best. So its bigget than my former name, Adex
