How was she contacted to manage Portable? What has been her experience challenges so far managing Portable?
Considering the kind of person lots of people believe Portable is. These and many more questions she answered in a chat with City People Head of TV, SUNDAY ADIGUN.
Please enjoy the conversation.
Are you the one managing Portable now?
Yes boss.
How were you contacted to be his new manager, and how has it been managing him, considering the kind of person people believe he is?
Well, I have worked with so many artiste in the industry for more than 7 years now so managing Portable is not a big deal for me. There is nothing wrong with Portable, he doesn’t take alcohol, he doesn’t take pills, he only smokes which is normal among all artiste, so when you say considering who he is sounds somehow to me.
Many people believe Portable is troublesome?
Because just like every hot tempered person, Portable is hot tempered and he talks a lot. Yes, he is troublesome and many people are, some artists are even more troublesome than him, they don’t just come out on social media to display their own. On his part, coming out on social media is his own very of explaining his own side of the story. But when you listen to him whenever he’s ranting and shouting, you will know that he is been cheated. He is ranting because of something that happened behind bars and he can’t take it and thats why he is out there on social media.
How were you contacted to be his manager?
I was in Dubai when he came for an event, but before then he has been following me on social media and we travelled together at my boss’s event. He saw the way I handled all the celebrities that came and when we met in Dubai, he saw the way I handled his movement there, then he approached me, so, I was working from Dubai till I came to Nigeria.
I was taking his international bookings and running his international tours, fixing his pess release. Just trying to brand him a little.
Let’s talk about you, how did artist management starts for you?
I started in school back then in Offa. I started by organising shows, events, bringing artists and all.
Then, I got lots of artists contact, so I started posting for them, reposting their jobs and all, like Terry G, Harrysong, 9ice, Seriki, many of them I can’t remember again. Later, I started working with Shina Peller and manage Que Peller then I took over all the artists under Aquila Records, became the General Manager, having Airboy, Que Peller, Base One, Naomi Peller, Beezy and Eleniyan. I still manage my husband then Portable.
I still need to know what inspires you to start managing artists?
Well, I love music generally because I sing as well but I always like to be in the business part. I love money a lot.
So, it wasn’t like I was inspited. I was really getting lots of money.
So the business is very profitable?
Honestly.
Why did Portable chose to come to the stage in casket at his last concert?
Well the same reason why you are asking me about the casket is why Portable decided to do it. It wasn’t my idea. It was his own idea, and as his manager, I let him. At least it’s a strong Pr. It got people talking.
Some said maybe it was for a ritual purpose?
Lol! What type of ritual is that?
So, how long have you been working together?
Since last year. I have been on a low key. I didn’t come out as his manager, but was doing stuffs for him low key. Though, he has another lady, Steliza working with him before I came on board.
Some people said Portable will have sense now that you are his manager?
(Laugh). The reason he listens to me is because I still allow him to have his way. I don’t condemn everythhing he wants to do. Sometimes just leave them let them do their mind, they will respect you.
