At the recent 2023 City People Female Achievers Award, the artiste on stage, Oluomo Matto thrilled everyone to no end. The general view was that Ojuolape Matthew whose stage name is Oluomo Matto is good at what he does. He is the leader of the Great Achiever’s Band.
He kept everyone on their feet as he dished out alujo tunes.
Who is Oluomo Matto? Let’s tell you a little about him.
He was born in Lagos and studied Music Technology at Ibadan Poly. He’s from Ogun State but resides in Lagos. At the event, he narrated how he has sustained his band for over 20 years.
How does it feel being the leader of Great Achiever’s Band? “Yes, I am the leader but it’s a group thing. My being the leader doesn’t make me bigger than the rest. We are one family.”
For how long has he been playing we asked him. “The band has been going on for more than 2 decades.”
We asked him to tell us how life has been with the band. “We thank God, we are not where we were when we started. So, we thank God day by day we are moving forward”.
He told us how he started the band. “I started as a choir and later people started inviting me to play at their ceremonies. That was why I had to form a band outside the church”.

Does he still play in the church where he started from? “No, No. I don’t play there, but I still play in churches”.
To people who want to start a band business, what will he like to say to them? “We thank God. If I say it hasn’t been easy, it might sound as discouragement to them. This is Nigeria, there is nothing easy, but the zeal to continue would definitely pay off in the future”.
Where is his band’s office? “We are at Ikotun”
We also asked him if he had been given an award anywhere else apart from CityPeople. “My first award was from Ebenezer Obey in 2002. And the second one was a group award, while the latest was from City People
What is the strength of your band? “Plus, the Manager we are about 16 to 17”.
Does he have any other business apart from this? “No not at all. And I thank God this has been helping me”.
