•One Of Them, TUNJI BANJO, Gives Details
These are good times for Senator Daisy Danjuma. She is 70 and many of those who have encountered her over the years are coming out one after the other to talk about the wonderful things she has done to help the less privileged and how she has taken many Area Boys & Touts off the streets.
For those who don’t know, let’s quickly tell you that Senator Daisy Danjuma was the Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria from Edo South Senatorial District. She was in office from 2003-2007. She is the pretty wife of Lt Gen. Theophilus Danjuma, former Minister of Defence who plays big in Oil business.
A few days ago, Adetunji Banjo one of the beneficiaries of her good heart, spoke to City People about how Senator Danjuma took many Area Boys off the streets. Not many people know that over the last few years, she has been there for the needy and less privileged. She has also helped to rehabilitate Area Boys & destitute who have given up on life.
Tunji told City People that he was an Area Boy before he meet Senator Danjuma who took him off the street. “I have known her for her very many years. I used to see her at parties. But one day/ met her at a party and she told me that I should stop being an Area Boy, that she will set me up in business. She has a heart of Gold. She is a woman who has the fear of God. She is always helping people. I am a good example of that. I am not the only one she has helped. She has helped so many area boys. She does what other people don’t do. She is a human being. She knows when other people are hungry. She gives them food to eat, clothes to wear, and shelter to stay. She is always helping. She keeps helping people without looking back”.
“I was born more than 55 years ago,” he said. “In my 55 years, I have not met anybody like her before Senator Daisy Danjuma will ask you, what you want her to do to turn your life around. And she will do it.”
“During Covid-19 Lockdown, many of the Island Boys in Isale Eko benefitted from her. She was there for us. She fed us. She gave us food and clothes. She really touched lives. Go to Isale-Eko to go and ask Island Boys. They will tell you what she did for them. She is No 1. She gave them breakfast, Lunch & Dinner. She was always sending food to us. She told all of us to stop being Area Boys and empowered us. I pray for her every day. Her focus is on the needy.
She has been a blessing to many people. Hunger is one of the many problems we are faced in Nigeria and she is always sending food to the needy.”
“We keep praying that God should continue to bless her abundantly. She is 70 now. She will live long to be 80. She will be 90. She will be 100. She will live long. This is the beginning for her. 70 is a stepping stone for her”.
“I met her formally when Covid-19 came. I met her and I told her I am broke. No money. No food. And she began to take care of me and my friends. She was sending food to us. She started taking off not only me but my family. She rehabilitated me. She got me the house I am living in. She has been feeding my children and family.”
“But for her, Covid would have killed many of us. All the things I have been praying to God for in 40 years, this woman did it for me in just one second.”
“We are more than 400 people in Lagos Island that she is taking care of. During Coro, we used to go and take food from her with a truck. She gave us Rice and Palliative. She gave it all to us and she never complains. How many rich Nigerians can do what this woman does? How many? I am happy for her at 70. She saved my life. I can never forget her. At the time I met her, I had given up on life. I had become so frustrated and I had concluded I can never become a fulfilled person. I have worked for 40 years with no helper. And I met her, in a few days, she changed my life”.
“She is not the type of person who helps and tells the next person that she helped you. No. She is not like that. She helps and simply moves on. She keeps it to herself. When you see her and you apologise, she gets angry. She will tell you to give all thanks to God. She will tell you she is giving you a good example so that you can help other people and we are doing the same in our own little way”.
“Anytime I get to the Island, people will surround me and say what has Mama sent to us. So, I will on my own, begin to give them little, little cash that I have.”
Before I met her, I thought my life was ruined. I had gone all over town to consult people about my life and they told me that I can never be somebody in life again that I should just continue to be an Area boy. This woman came from no where and turned around my life. I still can’t believe it. The house where I live, she gave it to me, during Coro. She gave me Okada to do business with. She gave me the car I am driving. It was during Coro. Anybody I introduce to her, she is always ready to help. I wish her Goodluck. She is God sent. She will celebrate her 70th birthday in good health, happiness and greater wealth”.
