Barely 4-months to the 2023 general elections, the Rivers State governorship election remains a very hot contest as it is still unclear who will emerge victorious.

The PDP’s governorship candidate, Siminialaye Fubara, the former Accountant-General of Rivers State, emerged the governorship candidate, at the prompting of the incumbent Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike.

(1) LOYALTY TO NYESOM EZENWO WIKE

The political alliance between Siminialaye Fubara and Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, the incumbent Governor of Rivers State, remains one of political surprises that many citizens and residents never expected, but Fubura emerged the governorship candidate. For him to win, it’s expected that he must maintain loyalty to the incumbent governor, who is having problem with the Presidential Candidate of the party, Atiku Abubakar.

(2) WORK CLOSELY WITH PARTY BIG WIGS

Given the ongoing problem in Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) which has resulted in the internal division among the elders of the party, Siminialaye Fubara must get it right with the Elders Forum leadership of the PDP in Rivers State as most of them are living outside the state, owing  to political infractions with the governor of Rivers State.

(3) YOUTHS SOLIDARITY

To woo the youth and lure them to support him, in Rivers State, Siminialaye Fubara has plenty of work to do. For the realization of his bid for governorship in the 2023, the PDP’s candidate has to build more bridges across the 23- Local Government Areas of the state. To achieve this, he is expected to establish contacts with the youth who are searching for ways and means to exhibit their innate abilities in different endeavours, just as the incumbent Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has provided many job for the youths with infrastructural development going on in the state.

(4) NON-INDIGENOUS VOTERS ALLIANCE

The atmosphere of political campaigns may be rough and decisive by the contributions of Non-Indigene resident is Rivers State. This group has become the 24th Local Government Area, although not recognized in the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, but their political relevance during elections can’t be wished away. During the administration of Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi this group were identified as Indigenes Without Border and they were given slots in the Executive Cabinet with Portfolio. And in this political administration of Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, the Non Indigenous group has reserved positions of Commissioner in the cabinet.

In all the political parties in Rivers State, the  Non-Indigenes have great influence which every party admits.

(5) IDENTITY FOR POLITICAL MANIFESTOS

Having to be under the influence of a successful governor such as Nyesom Ezenwo Wike who is popularly addressed as Mr. Quality Project and recognized with the award of Excellence in Infrastructural Development in Rivers State by Federal Government of Nigeria. With such a huge political influence of the incumbent Governor, Siminialaye Fubara has much work to do in rewinding the political agenda that will make the electorate queue into his group before the election proper in March 2023.
