Veteran Actor, YEMI SOLADE Gives Tips
Yemi Solade is a veteran actor, who has been acting for over 40 years. He has also been a Brand Ambassador for about 3 real estate companies.
He co-anchored the just concluded 2023 City People Real Estate Awards. Just before the event started, he shared his experience as a real estate brand ambassador and explained what actors should look out for before he or she takes on the role.
“Every business, every sector usually has the articulate and inarticulate player. I pride myself as one of the foremost articulate actors in this country, going by my antecedent, going by my academic records, fields and achievements. I get the solution when I see a real estate company take on faces that are not articulate. This is a business that comes with so much Technicality and your face should be able to express himself or herself in that business. Okay this is what this is about, it is not just words, real estate goes beyond that”.
“What most of them don’t understand is that…it will amaze you that most companies go to this social media, especially Instagram, they go to 1000 at your followers you know this days of actors buying followers and they say he has 2 millions followers, 4 millions followers, and they say let’s take him on. They take him on, they bring him to an event like this and he can’t express himself, isn’t that embarassing? So I think they should look beyond popularity, they should look at the individuality. What is his background? Even character trait. Can he stand before kings and presidents and talk and can he represent the company? It’s not about face, it goes deeper than that, because the company has a policy and you must understand and imbibe the company’s policy.
Let me tell you one of the things I know when I take up a job with a company. The first thing I do even before going for the maiden meeting, I go in their company’s colours, because I know about branding.
The first day I meet them, I go in their company colour and tell them, some of them don’t even know. So it tells you how prepared I am. I have not even signed the contract form. Yet I am seeing myself as an Ambassador. So, it is not about your popular face, it is about who you are. And real estate is not for children. It is a very serious business. You could be an actor or musician who appeals to students. So are you selling to student on campus? For Real estates you need matured faces, faces that your customer or clients can relate with, very matured, that they can say okay if this guy is the face of this company. We love him. He is matured. He is educated. We should be able to do business with them. It is not like come oh. Our land is this and that, no, no your ambassador should act like the CEO of the company at times.
I did that with the company that took me to the UK for Real Estate show, very unassuming man. So, I represented him as the M.D., I acted like I owned the company, and that is what I do most times, I like to be in charge, because I want to do your business like I do mine. So it’s not like how much did he pay me sef? No, no so apart from being a model, I strike relationship, so that is it.
