Kunle Uthman is the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Lagos Governorship candidate. Last week he promised to make Water Transportation effective if voted into office in 2023.
He was speaking at the interactive session with political party candidates at Eko Club in Surulere, Lagos on Wednesday, 25th January 2023. At that event, Uthman revealed his plans to members of the club.
“I am a bonafide indigene of Lagos State. My parents are both from Lagos State. I am a full Lagosian, Governor Sanwoolu and his deputy are not from Lagos State, why should we keep allowing non-indigene of Lagos State to govern or lead us? Mr President, I implore Eko Club members to have a rethink on my submission, for how long do we keep selling Lagos State out? Have we noticed that, when these indigenes grow old. They go back to their states, I mean, they don’t bury them in Lagos State. He lamented the filth and dirt in the state, he promised to create mass jobs for the youths by engaging them in cleaning Lagos.
Uthman said,”if you move around Lagos, you will be embarrassed by the filth,and heaps of rubbish you see in most parts of the state,and this is not a good image for the mega city the state should enjoy.
From my house in Lekki to Epe, I use 6 hours on the road, from Epe to Lekki, I use 7 hours. Unilag used to be the best university in country, where is Lasu now, go and see Ikorodu, Badagry, Lekki, Lagos ought to be like Dubai. Lagos State is the only place buildings are collapsing like we see in films. We cannot continue like this. Go to Sangrose market, go to Jankara market in Lagos, Jankara market has been demolish, and yet nothing is been done about it.
This government has really make life difficult for us, what do we mean by e mi lokan government?
When I was in school, Lagos State pays the best and highest bursary to students, go and ask our students about bursaries now.
I pay over 1million to 5 million naira as school fees for a child now. When I was in school, my school fees was 35 naira, a crate of egg is over 3,000 naira, cartoon or milk, bags of rice is nothing to write home about.
Our senators, house of representatives are not from Lagos State. Mr President, I think we need to take back the indigneship in this country.
Let us contest in this election. Let us all get involved in this election, this is the 1st time in the history of Nigeria that our votes will count. Majority of the voters are the youths, these are people that are traumatized in the country. And the endsars youth, we were in Unilag few days ago, next week, we will do a roadship to Isale Eko, we will let people know that, I am a true Lagosian and I am contesting as the governor of Lagos State.
If my party wins the 2023 governorship election in Lagos, I will strengthen the Lagos Waste Management Authority, LAWMA, by employing more youths, and the agency’s mandate will be strengthened,that way jobs are created and the city is kept clean.
“With the Okada ban, which I support, by the way, I will make water transportation effective. In those good old days,you will move from Mile 2 and Festac town take a ferry to CMS, but today, they have sold the jetties.
“With the current Okada ban, the riders that would be made jobless should be engaged in one empowerment or the other”
“Also on the Lekki toll gate exploitation, I will address that if I emerge. We know that Lagosians living on that axis are going through hard times as they have to pay each time they are in and out. I will check that.
“I will make sure Lagos is a mega city in all respect if my party wins the election in Lagos.”

The President of Eko Club Hon. Barr. Tajudeen Jaiyeola Agoro, who apologised for coming late due to some reasons appreciated the SDP gubernatorial candidate, Chief Kunle Uthman, he said, they have been friends for a very long time and he can say, they are brothers now, he thank him for honouring their invite and he said, Uthman is also a member of Eko Club. He recognised the SDP team who came with Uthman. He said the issue of Lagos State is a complicated issue and only Allah can help us. He thanked every member of Eko Club, for coming to the interactive session with political party candidates.
