Fast-rising gospel singer and bandleader, Laolu Gbenjo has hinted citypeople on why he took a break from music for 7 years before he returned with a thunderous bang and remained at the top of the list when it comes to live performances.
The young, vibrant and talented music artist, stormed citypeople corporate office on Wednesday, 05 April 2022 and had a media chat with the team. He said that he was discouraged when he couldn’t sell his CDs in 2014 and decided to take a break from singing, although h was still in the music business renting sounds and music systems to artists until God spoke to him through an anonymous man of God while attending an event.
He said:
“I left music long ago, 7 years to be precise before I later return in 2020. I notice that I wasn’t feeling the business as we invest so much in the recording and mobilizing of the band boys but eventually we were not able to sell enough CD to get the return.
“But one day, I attended a friend’s album launch and I was called to review the song, while I was doing that, I did a few stunt and dazzled the guests.
“That was when I someone approached me and told me that God wants me to return to music. So I mobilised my guys again and ginger them. We went to the studio and continue to record. We were taking requests to wish people birthday with live performances. The first we got was N50K for the first lives show, and after paying for sound and everything, nothing was remaining. But with time, we started getting requests to perform and it was becoming so huge that we were sleeping in the studios.
We did over 1000 shout-outs in 2020 alone, and 2021 was even more”,he said
