Former Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, presided over a controversial plenary session on Thursday with only four lawmakers in attendance.
The lawmakers in attendance include Ayinde Akinsanya, popularly called, Osmak, representing Mushin Constituency 1, Hon. Olumoh Sa’ad Lukman representing Ajeromi-Ifelodun Constituency 1, Hon. Abdulkareem Jubreel Ayodeji representing Agege Constituency II and Noheem Adams, representing Eti-Osa Constituency II
Security personnel forced the chamber doors open.
Most lawmakers refused to join in support of the current Speaker, Lasbat Meranda.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the session took place after security personnel forcibly opened the chamber doors, allowing Obasa and his supporters to enter.
Despite the move, over 26 other legislators refused to join the plenary, standing in support of the newly recognized Speaker, Mojisola Meranda.
The session, which commenced at 3:00 PM, was still ongoing by 3:30 PM as tensions ran high within the Assembly.
The crisis surrounding Obasa’s removal has raised concerns over political interests and divisions within the legislative body.
