Why I Joined Rotary Club In 2009 •Rotarian VICTORIAN KUTEYI-OGUNDEMIREN

If you meet Rotarian Victoria Olayinka Kuteyi-Ogundemuren for the very first time no one needs to tell you she is a Rotary member. She is a good advertisement and ambassador for represents. Most times when you see her she is either in a Rotary T-Shirt, with a branded face cap or a badge affixed to her dress. And if you chat her up for only 5 minutes she will be quick to tell you she is a Rotarian. And she sleeps and breathes Rotary. Over the last 18 years, Rotarian Victoria has been religiously devoted to Rotary. Although that is not her full-time job, because she is a retired nurse who is into Fabric business, Rotary activities takes her time.

No wonder why she has held a key position in Rotary. She is a valued member of Rotary Club of Victoria Garden City District (9110 Nigeria). She was once the Treasurer (2010-2012) and later went on to be President RC VGC (from 2013 to 2014). She has been an active member of many Rotary’s Health Committees.

She is a Polio Champion. That is why she is actively involved in the eradication of Polio in Nigeria. On 12th May 2017, the Nigeria National Polio Plus committee gave her a special service award for being the best Rotarian who has distinguished herself and committed to the Rotary Priority Project, Global Polio Eradication in District 9110 Nigeria. Many don’t know that she is a registered Nurses Midwife, started her Nursing career at the University College Hospital Ibadan in 1975. Victoria is a member of the Nursing & Midwifery Council of Nigeria.

She holds a PGD in Health Safety and Environment from the University of Lagos in 2007, a certified basic life support and advanced life support responder, trained with the American Heart foundation. She is also trained in domestic violence in New Jersey, USA. A fashion designer/seamstress and very fashionable, a skill she acquired from her late mum who was a seamstress.

Born to late Major J.F. Kuteyi & Apostle Esther Motinola Kuteyi, she grew up in the Army barracks in the former Northern and Easter part of the country from the fifties to the sixties when she came to the Southern part of the country during the civil war and lives here till date. This explains why she speaks so many Nigerian languages and dialects. She loves travelling and has travelled locally and internationally.

She is a JP. Victoria has worked in various capacities in her career as a Nurse, joined Chevron Nigeria Limited on the 7th of March 1999 till date. 2015 March, when she returned. She worked effortlessly in all her field and was the best nurse 2000 and 200 1. Her hobbies are dancing, socializing, travelling, learning languages reading.

ROTARY MOMENT
There are Rotarians in her family, so she knew about Rotary over 30 years ago. Some of them are PP, PHF, Rotarian Olubunmi Ogube, the Centennial President of the premier club of Nigeria, District 9125; PP, Rotarian Grace Adejisola Ogunbe (nee Kuteyi) is also of the Rotary Club of Kano, District 9125. A multiple PHF & Spouse of the Centennial President. She is the first female President of that District, 2004-2005 Rotary years; PP, PHF Rotn. Babatunde Onakoya, of Rotary Club ofOnigbongbo, District 9110. Rotarian Gloria Titilayo Nickles-Benson, Rotary Club of Stevenage, Hertfordshire, United Kingdom.

And of course one Inner Wheel member Chief Mrs. Flora Folake Onakoya, Paul Harris Fellow. She, therefore, have been in the Rotary family all along.

In 2009, during the Hospitability Night organized by Rotary club ofVGC at Rotarian Aigbe’s house, she was in attendance with Rotarian Tunde Ogunmekan. Overwhelmed by all the charity works done in Rotary, and most importantly the love and friendship displayed by the Rotarians, she made up my mind to join the club. She was constantly mentored by Assistant Governor, Multiple Paul Harris Fellow Uyi Sowobi. In her words, she said ‘This woman is a true Rotarian to the core. I respect her a lot. She serves relentlessly. In fact, she is a Rotary role model.’

She have served the club in many capacities, among them are; Treasurer in 2010-2011, 2012-2012 Rotary years; Chair New Generation 20 1 0- 2011, 2011-2012 Rotary years; Member Alliance for smiles 2010-2011 under PDG Shoga; Member Rotary Family Health Program; Paul Harris Fellow; President-Elect 20 12- 2013, About to officially installed as President 2013 -2014; She is currently a district leader, RI D9110 a polio champion and N18. National Polio Plus awardee.
