A few days ago, we got a tiny amount of rain. This will obviously not mean anything to you if you don’t live in Calif, and know we’ve been in a drought for a few years now.
We had all been hoping for major rain to help get us out of the drought/dryness we’ve been experiencing in the hopes of alleviating strict water restrictions and hefty fines for those who do not comply.
So my Ijebu-self cleared out my front lawn and replaced grass with lava rocks for aesthetics. No watering is needed! I left the backyard to take care of itself jare, it was out of sight to my neighbours and nosey parker snooping around people’s backyards. If not, maybe I would be shamed into doing something about it!
Looking through the kitchen window, all you see is nothing but dry bare ground, as all the vegetation had died from starvation(I had turned off the sprinklers in the backyard for close to a year now) why should I waste water?
Every so often I’ll get the question, “are you just going to leave the backyard like that”. I always responded with “I don’t know”. I stared at this bare dusty backyard every day and the thought of reviving it back completely eluded me. a beg joh, I wasn’t ready to spend all that money for grass!
Alas to my amazement, I look out and what do I see? A blanket of green covering the backyard and hill. How can this be? It had rained for just a couple of days and it wasn’t even serious rain, but more like drizzle and wasn’t really rain.
How grass I had neglected and starved, and was nothing more than dry dusty ground all of a sudden, it had become a beauty and picnic delight! I was still pondering this when the
LORD used it to minister to me about the dryness i sometimes experience in life. Whether it is physically, emotionally or spiritual, God will revive me again with just a drizzle of His mercy.
During dryness, we often think that’s the end, life and beauty can never come out of this dry fallow ground, But God says not so, I will sprinkle your dryness with just a drizzle of my mercy and revive you again. i will turn your fallow ground to green pasture in just a moment.
Even though I abandoned my backyard, God choose to restore its natural beauty by giving it just a tiny bit of rain. It’s been a week now and my concern now is muzzling the boys to mow the grass. I can maintain the beauty and the restoration by simply turning on the sprinklers and if I don’t God will clothe His field. God always always does what He says He will do, always better with our cooperation and collaboration!
So this new month may you experience God’s drizzle of mercy over every dryness in your life. May He restore life and beauty to every fallow ground of your life. May the turn around be speedy and amazing. May the luster of your life be greener than my beautiful backyard.
