City People Reveals Details
City People caught up once again with the award-winning Nollywood filmmaker KEMI ADEKOMI, who has just finished shooting another advocacy film which talks about child sexual abuse, in her bid to support the eradication of the menace that is eating deep into our society.
She previously made an advocacy film ‘DARK CLOUDS’, which her Advocacy team took round secondary schools and showed to children FREE OF CHARGE, all in her bid to tackle the menace of child sexual abuse, from the eyes of children.
The film not only touched lives of children positively but also won her awards, both in Nigeria and internationally.
This time around, the one-time BEST ACTRESS, one-time best supporting actress (English), multiple-time award-winning filmmaker is set to make another film, this time for adults, unlike the previous one that was made specifically for children, to teach them what they need to know about sexual abuse.
According to her, the film will address child sexual abuse from the angle of how it affects adults who were abused as children.
The story centres around a man in his late 30s called Akin, who was abused by a child and grew into a damaged adult. His actions cause him a big disaster, which viewers won’t see coming.
‘Akin’ the lead character was played by popular Nigerian actor, Lateef Adedimeji and other casts include Queeneth Agbor, Sam Uche Ayanmele, Seun Kentebe, Mofe Okorodudu, Kemi Adekomi herself, amongst others who brought the very brilliant story to life (according to Kemi Adekomi, who Produced the film and is also the Director of the film).
Her NGO, Olukemi Advocacy Move Against Child Sexual Abuse has done a lot in trying to eradicate this menace, through workshop, social media campaigns, film tour and also taken up several cases reported to her NGO, she has attended several court cases and some culprits were successfully jailed, including high profile cases.
Very passionate about this cause, Kemi Adekomi, who is not only a filmmaker and founder of Olukemi Advocacy Move Against Child Sexual Abuse, is also a top notch Corporate MC, a voice-over artiste, an intelligence analyst, and also a senior officer in Supernumerary unit of the Nigeria Police Force, ( which many people do not know) and she actually got a notable recognition as the first ever female G-1 (General number 1) in the history of PTS, and also first female to win the commandant’s drill in the history of the Police Training School Ikeja, beating over 260 officers in her set to it, which of course earned her a huge recognition during and after her time at the training school, amongst other brilliant achievements she has recorded in other areas of her.
Call her a well-grounded super woman, and you won’t be far from it.
She hopes to send her latest film for festivals to get more people to see it, so as to fulfil the purpose for which it was made, since it is not a commercial film and will not be sold.
She also hopes to have the movie screened publicly, amongst other plans she has for the film, which she titled ‘UNLEASHED’.
Known for her award winning titles like DARK CLOUDS and VENDETTA, she has also produced and / or directed other titles like PLAN B, DEAD GIRL, THE LAST STRAW, HELL and FURY, amongst others.
Kemi Adekomi is a force to reckon with in Nollywood, and we look forward to the release of her new Advocacy film titled, UNLEASHED.
She is a member of the Actors’ Guild of Nigeria, Association of Movie producers, Directors’ Guild of Nigeria, amongst others.
We asked what inspired her movement Against Child Sexual Abuse, and she had this to say;
“a lot of people have asked me if i was abused as a child but interestingly, not atal. I was never abused as a child, so that wasn’t what inspired me to do this.
What inspired this though, is a discovery i made a few years ago, and it catapulted me into starting off this fight against child sexual abuse and protecting our children from child predators.
We have been able to ‘escort’ a few to jail, and we have attended to scores of cases. Some end up positively, some don’t, but i am very passionate about this, and even at times when i get discouraged, i get up and move, and God has been helping me so far.
Trust me, it hasn’t been easy. I recall once getting a threat call during one high profile case, but when you are doing good and also entrust it into the hands of God, all will be well”.
We wish this super woman (who looks very amazing at over 40 by the way!) a great time as she continues her journey in the film world and in other areas of her life.
