Over the last two decades, retail and overall commercial activity have continued to rise within Lekki Phase 1, especially on major corridors of the highbrow estate such as Admiralty Way, Fola Osibo Street, and Admiralty Road. Multiple residential properties have been converted to retail to accommodate retailers such as Dominos, KFC and banks including Stanbic IBTC, Fidelity, First Bank and a few more. More commercial developments are ongoing and two of such are on the verge of completion.
The first of the two new development is THE TWIN WATERS ENTERTAINMENT CENTRE. It is an entertainment/leisure center development located on Okunde Blue Water Zone, Off RemiOlowude Street in Lekki Phase 1 (Oceanside or ‘right’). Information available to us show that the massive project is being developed by a private individual and according to the project’s website, the center will include some of the best facilities for family shopping, entertainment and relaxation.
Some of the facilities for thecenter are:Two luxury fine dining restaurants offering a modern twist of traditional Chinese, Thai, Japanese and contemporary continental cuisines and a retail space of 2,699.98m² comprising of one large 2,020.85m² anchor and 10 smaller line shops ranging between 35.61m² and 123.14m². Others are an entire floor dedicated to urban gaming with over 100 games, a bowling alley, an event suites with seating a capacity of 10 – 500 people and a superbly finished rooftop bar.
The entire project is being handled by some of the best construction firms in Nigeria. Conceptstruck Company Limited designed the property, Telisol Limited are the main contractors and White Hutchinson Leisure & Learning Group, an international feasibility, design and consulting firm, are responsible for the interior designs, development of the restaurant’s menu and procurement of all entertainment, furniture and kitchen equipment.
Expected to add colour and glamour to the already flourishing entertainment and shopping lifestyle of Lekki Phase 1 residents, The Twin Waters Entertainment Centre is set for delivery and operation anytime soon despite a minor delay in construction works at the start of construction works on the project. Without doubts, the project should be ready for use before the end of 2017 going by the current pace of work.
Another mega shopping mall ongoing in Lekki Phase 1 is the Lennox Mall. It is a 3 floor retail development by Transcorn Trading Limited with entry points on Admiralty Way and Layi Yusuf Crescent in Lekki Phase 1. Designed by ARG Studio’s, the project has been under construction for approximately 3 years with Construct Mache Limited acting as the main contractor. Reasons for the long years of work on the project cannot be explained but work has been quite fast and smooth on the project in recent times. Information available to us from reliable sources and realtors helping to ensure that the development is fully tenanted shows thatleasing activity at Lennox Mall is ongoing and tenants have already been secured. Completion has been slated for the last quarter of 2017 barring any unforeseen circumstances.
A few residents of Lekki Phase 1 who spoke with City People Magazine expressed delight on the prospects of having two new super shopping malls within Lekki Phase 1. Akinola Banji a resident of Lekki Phase 1 says the development of the two new malls will make life a lot easier and better for Lekki 1 residents. “Lekki Phase 1 keeps expanding almost on a daily basis and the need for more centres and malls that would take care of the needs of residents cannot be overemphasized. It is a welcome development and we encourage more developers to invest more into Lekki Phase 1”, he says.
