Chief Yinka Fasuyi is one of the frontline Chiefs in Ijeshaland. He is the Asiwaju of Ijeshaland. He is one of those the Owu Obokun of Ijeshaland, Oba AdekunleAromolaran, greatly believes in. He was the Special Guest at the recent New Year party of the Lagos Country Club, Ikeja. At the event, he spoke with City People’s WALE LAWAL on life as the Asiwaju of Ijeshaland. Below are excerpts.
We’ll like to know, sir, how has it been for you being the Asiwaju of Ilesha?
It’s been challenging, it’s a call to service. But we give glory to God, we are grateful to Him for being on our side and I’m delighted and confident to say that we are serving well and the community is appreciative. Ilesha is appreciative.
How long, sir, have you been the Asiwaju of Ilesha?
That’s about one-and-half years ago.
Apart from being the Asiwaju of Ilesha, we know you are a successful businessman, tell us, sir, about your business life.
Well, I have been an international management consultant for about 27 years now and I also currently manage two organisations whose services cut across the globe. One is Supreme Management Consultants where I am the Chief Consultant and the other one is Ibadan Business School and I am the President of the Institution. Both institutions are into Human Capital Development.
Share with us, sir, in the last one-and-half years or thereabouts, some of the changes and innovations you have brought in as the Asiwaju of Ilesha.
I have been offering services in the area of education, in the area of development and advisory services to the committee. The one that we’re now even focusing on is the YinkaFasuyi Foundation, which has been supporting education in the community through the provision of scholarships to students in Ileshaland. In the year 2017, we provided scholarships to 100 students that cut across all the six local governments in Ileshaland. In 2018, we are going to improve on that number. This is just one of the highlights of our modest contributions to our people.
Ilesha is known to have many illustrious sons and daughters. One of the challenges when illustrious sons like you are called to take up leadership and distinguished positions in the community, is the difficulty in making out time to play your role as a leader very well. How have you been able to cope as well as managing your businesses and delivering on your responsibilities as an International Management Consultant?
The truth is, I was prepared for it before I took the position. For me, it’s a passion. I accepted the title and the responsibilities that come with it because I have the passion for it. It’s not going to affect my business in any way, rather, I see it as a delight to serve the people. It’s something that I enjoy doing. I am not the only one in the organisation, I am just a part of the team that makes up the organisation, so the organisation functions perfectly well whether I’m there or not. So long as you have a fantastic team running an organisation, the temporary absence of one person would barely be noticed.
Finally, sir, what are your aspirations for your people in the next couple of years?
Well, I am not a politician, and neither will I become one. My aspirations will be to continue to render selfless service to my community, for the benefit of my people. I have always said that you don’t necessarily have to become a politician before you can render service to your community and that’s what I take a great delight in doing, and I can guarantee you it’s something that I will continue to do for the rest of my life.
